(CLO) On October 31, OpenAI integrated a new search feature into the ChatGPT chatbot, instead of launching a separate search product.
OpenAI says the search feature on ChatGPT will provide quick, timely answers with links to relevant web resources based on a user's query.
“The ChatGPT search engine leverages third-party search services as well as content provided directly by partners to deliver the information users are looking for,” OpenAI said, noting that the search model is a refined version of GPT-4o.

All ChatGPT Plus and Team users will have access to this model starting October 31. Enterprise and education users will have access to these features in the coming weeks. Free users will have access in the coming months.
The AI startup, led by Sam Altman, has signed content deals with a number of news publishers this year, including Condé Nast, Time magazine, the Financial Times, Business Insider owner Axel Springer, France's Le Monde and Spain's Prisa Media.
OpenAI says it has worked closely with the news industry and gathered feedback from partners on the search functionality. Any website or publisher can choose to appear in ChatGPT search.
In July, OpenAI launched SearchGPT, an AI-powered search engine prototype capable of accessing information from the internet in real time.
In early October, OpenAI raised $6.6 billion in funding from investors, potentially valuing the company at $157 billion and cementing its position as one of the world's most valuable private companies.
