Perhaps, from such good impressions, it is the catalyst that makes Vietnamese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Tran Anh Vu regularly organize and participate in exchange activities, promote and introduce Vietnamese culture to the host country and ASEAN and international friends in Brunei Darussalam.

Ambassador Vu said that the development thinking and culture of Brunei and Vietnam, as well as many ASEAN members, have similarities. The people of both countries love peace and share the aspiration for sustainable development, with a strong focus on the human factor and preserving cultural identity.

From these good cultural characteristics, the head of the Vietnamese Representative Office in Brunei believes that through organizing and participating in cultural exchange activities, it will contribute to promoting and deepening the cooperative relationship between the two countries as well as between members of the "ASEAN Family" on all pillars.

To realize this idea, Ambassador Vu and the Vietnamese Embassy in Brunei have actively organized and participated in many events in the country such as introducing Vietnamese cuisine, introducing Vietnamese music, placing statues at the ASEAN Walk walking space in the capital of Brunei...

Most recently, the Embassy coordinated with the Raddisson Hotel system and the Brunei Music Association to organize the "Vietnamese Culture and Cuisine Week" in Brunei from October 27 to November 4, 2023. The Ambassador said that at the opening ceremony of the event, there were more than 150 delegates, including leaders of Brunei Government agencies, Ambassadors, Heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of artists, intellectuals, businesses, media and the Vietnamese community in Brunei attending.

In his opening remarks at the event, Ambassador Tran Anh Vu emphasized that cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges are very important in the development of each country and in the ASEAN integration process. For Vietnam and Brunei, cultural exchange and people-to-people exchanges are identified as important areas of cooperation within the framework of the Action Plan to implement the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries for the period 2023-2027, which was approved during the official visit to Brunei Darussalam by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in February 2023.

Ambassador Vu said that in addition to events hosted by the Embassy, Vietnam also actively participates in ASEAN's common activities. The highlight of ASEAN in October was the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Walk in Brunei's capital Bandar Seri Begawan. The event received positive responses from representatives of ASEAN countries, Brunei's Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, former ASEAN Secretary General Lim Jock Hoi, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam Tran Hai Van, etc.

Sharing the same view with Ambassador Vu, speaking at the opening ceremony, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei also emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and promotion activities in ASEAN. Introducing to the delegation when visiting the Vietnamese installation work called “Bamboo and House” at the ASEAN Walk, Ambassador Vu said that the work was formed on the basis of cooperation between Vietnamese and Bruneian artisans.

The work emphasizes elements of cohesion, harmony, equality and diversity, expressing cultural diversity in a unified and developed whole, while using the image of bamboo, a symbol of Vietnamese culture, to depict solidarity, community cohesion and the continuation of cultural values through generations.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Brunei believes that by regularly organizing and participating in such cultural exchange activities, it will contribute to increasing understanding and connection between the people of the two countries in particular and among ASEAN member countries in general, thereby further promoting cooperation between ASEAN members in all fields.
