Below are the most impressive announcements and products on the second day of CES 2024 as voted by Zdnet.
New Features for Android Devices
One of the most important features that Google announced at the event was the Android sharing solution - Quick Share. Accordingly, Android devices including smartphones and laptops will be able to quickly share content peer-to-peer.
Other new features and updates include expanded Fast Pair support, the ability to stream to more apps and devices (including TikTok), and Android Auto integration into models like the new Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning.
Smart lighting system
Smart lighting company Nanoleaf has launched Orchestrator software that integrates sound effects. The software connects directly to a computer's audio source and separates feedback from the device, creating lighting that corresponds to each layer of sound.
Next up is the Nanoleaf Skylight, which includes square ceiling-mountable panels that deliver 1,400 lumens per square, along with Matter protocol-enabled outdoor string lights.
Mobile Power Station
The EcoFlow Delta Pro Ultra generator won the CES 2024 Innovation Award with impressive specifications, including a 6kWh load capacity (whole house), 7200W output power, and 5.6kW solar input.
The system is also compatible with expansion packs, increasing power output to a whopping 90kWh, which can power essential home appliances all month long.
ZDNET writer Maria Diaz tested the powerful generator at home, comparing the system to “a Swiss Army knife,” and said the device was “very quiet, with barely audible noise below 2000W.”
Control Android Watch with Gestures
The Wow Mouse app is built for Android smartwatches to act as an extension, allowing users to control surrounding technology via Bluetooth with hand gestures.
This feature is similar to Apple Watch's Double-Tap, but instead of controlling everything on the watch, Wow Mouse can also turn smart lights on or off or lower the volume of a nearby speaker.
Backup battery charging station
Swappery offers a technological solution that allows smartphones to continue operating for 8-10 hours with a wireless portable battery. When the phone runs out of battery, users need to place the device in the Swappery station, wait 7 seconds, then remove it with a battery pack attached to the back of the device to continue using it without any other cables, adapters or plug-ins.
Two-mode hybrid laptop, one device
Lenovo announced the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid with two highlights: First, it's a 2-in-1 that can be either a laptop with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor or a touchscreen tablet with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ processor. Second, it seamlessly switches between Windows and Android, depending on which "mode" (tablet or laptop) is selected.
Each component of this hybrid device even has its own battery. Customers pay $1,999 for what is essentially two products: a separate tablet and an all-in-one laptop.
Use the app without opening your phone
The Rabbit R1 device is intended to essentially replace the need to use a smartphone to access apps. The small gadget fits in the palm of your hand, and uses AI to watch and learn how users interact with their smartphone apps and typical web experiences, then recreates the profile (when voice-activated) on a custom cloud platform.
The device is really for those who want to overcome their smartphone addiction. Rabbit says some of the popular apps you can use on the R1 include Spotify, Apple Music, DoorDash, Uber, Amazon, and more.
A new way to stream video between devices
Amazon is introducing a new way to cast videos from phones and tablets directly to supported devices. With Matter Casting, users can now cast Prime Video content to the Echo Show 15, as well as Fire TV devices and televisions with Fire TV built-in.
The company also said it will add Matter Casting to services like Plex, Pluto TV, Sling TV, STARZ later this year.
Unlike Apple AirPlay and Google Chromecast, Amazon's Matter Casting uses the Matter Protocol, an open technology standard that makes it seamless to use smart devices from different brands.
