A collision between two vehicles caused the eastern gateway bridge of Ho Chi Minh City to be jammed for more than an hour, causing traffic chaos in the area on the morning of January 26.
At around 9am, a three-wheeled vehicle was collecting garbage on Saigon Bridge in the direction from Thu Duc City to Binh Thanh District. When it broke down in the middle of the bridge, the driver stopped to fix it and was hit by a motorbike coming from behind.

The collision injured two drivers and they were taken to the hospital. The garbage truck was stuck in the middle of the road during rush hour, causing a long traffic jam between Saigon Bridge and Vo Nguyen Giap Street (formerly Hanoi Highway).
Thousands of motorbikes inched their way across the bridge, forcing many to drive onto the sidewalk or into the car lane. By nearly 10am, the congestion was partially resolved after police arrived to direct traffic and move the garbage truck away from the scene.

Saigon Bridge was built in 1958, nearly one kilometer long, is the eastern gateway bridge connecting the city with the central and northern provinces. Traffic congestion often leads to traffic jams, so in 2012 Saigon Bridge 2 was built parallel to the old bridge.
The Metro Line 1 project and other pedestrian works are being implemented on the route, so the Vo Nguyen Giap bridge and street are often congested even when there are minor incidents. Four days ago, an incident while installing the pedestrian bridge beam connecting the metro caused a traffic jam of more than 3 km.
