The photo "Dolphins in the sea " was taken by the author in May 2022 during a creative trip to Hon Yen sea, Phu Yen. "At the time when fishing boats cast their seine nets at sea, the shape of the net accidentally creates an extremely interesting shape of a dolphin. The most beautiful moment is when the fishermen's small basket boat moves into the right position to create the shape of a dolphin like a perfect eye," Mr. Hoan shared.
"The fragile net suspended below the water's surface looks like a giant sea creature. I had to think of the shape of the dolphin from the sea images," said British visual artist and National Geographic photographer Reuben Wu, a member of the jury.
Hon Yen is located in Nhon Hoi village, An Hoa commune, Tuy An district, about 20 km from Tuy Hoa city, Phu Yen. It is a rocky island belonging to the Hon Yen complex, recognized as a national scenic relic in 2018. This sea area has emerald green sea water and many kinds of fresh seafood...
Every year from May to August, fishermen from Nhon Hoi village bustle out to sea on Hon Yen, using purse seine nets to catch seafood, mainly anchovies. This lifestyle has become an interesting subject for photography lovers across the country. Purse nets are used to catch fish by filtering water, and are dropped from the boat and pulled up onto the boat. Purse nets are used to catch fish in schools and are only dropped to a certain depth. When a school of anchovies is discovered, fishermen use a purse seine net to catch the fish.
