Busy seaport welcoming ships during Tet

During the Lunar New Year, seaports still maintain human resources to process goods, not interrupting import and export activities.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, Saigon Port International Container Services Joint Venture Company - SSA (SSIT) at Cai Mep - Thi Vai (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) is still busy welcoming ships entering and leaving the port to load and unload goods.

Mr. Phan Hoang Vu, Deputy General Director of SSIT Port, informed that recently, container ships at Cai Mep have been operating very busily, especially in early 2025. This has caused certain difficulties for passenger ships to schedule their arrival at the port.

MSC Orion, a Swan-Sentosa vessel, docked at SSIT port to handle import and export cargo. The vessel loaded and unloaded more than 6,400 Teus to the United States. The vessel left SSIT port right before the New Year's Eve of 2025.

According to Mr. Vu, in the past, near the Lunar New Year, the ports had many empty cargo ships, so passenger ships could be accepted more easily than now. This shows that import and export activities have shown signs of steady growth and development.

Because cargo operations are still operating normally, SSIT Port always arranges personnel to be on duty 24/7, without holidays. In fact, port workers only change shifts and do not take a break on New Year's Eve or the first day of the new year so that cargo operations are not interrupted.

Meanwhile, on the first day of Lunar New Year 2025, Cai Mep International Container Terminal (CMIT) welcomed the first ship named Budapest Express (capacity 103,662 DWT, length 335.07m).

CMIT representative informed that almost every day the port receives container ships and continuously connects them. The port still has to maintain the number of workers to ensure the quick release of ships, meeting the needs of customers.

"With the general development situation of Cai Mep, it can be expected that this year the situation will be more positive, with goods growing," emphasized the CMIT representative.

In the North, Hai Phong Port also maintains 24/7 production and exploitation activities to ensure safe and smooth reception and exploitation of goods. The forces in the production line are always ready. Vehicles, equipment and warehouses are arranged to ensure meeting the increased amount of goods in stock during Tet.

According to a representative of Hai Phong Port, during the Lunar New Year holiday, the Port is expected to receive 30 ships, including 20 container ships.

To ensure the productivity of loading, unloading and releasing ships quickly, the Port has requested departments to proactively monitor and closely follow ship schedules to make specific production plans, arrange equipment and production forces, and arrange reasonable wharfs.

At the same time, the exploitation process, regulations to ensure fire prevention and safety, security and order, and port security throughout the port are also required to be strictly implemented.

Notably, during Tet, to support and accompany customers during the holiday, many seaports have had policies to exempt storage and warehousing for containers. Typically, Hai Phong Port has a policy to exempt storage and warehousing for containers with goods imported from ships at Chua Ve Port and Tan Vu Port for 09 days, from January 25 to February 2 (except for refrigerated containers using electricity).
