(Chinhphu.vn) - On the morning of May 22, the National Assembly will conduct the process of electing the President. After the results are announced, the new President will take the oath of office and deliver his inaugural speech.

General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, was introduced by the Central Committee to be elected by the 15th National Assembly to hold the position of President.

On the afternoon of May 21, the National Assembly Standing Committee submitted to the National Assembly a list of nominees for the National Assembly to elect the President. The National Assembly discussed the list of nominees in the Delegation. Tomorrow morning (May 22), the National Assembly Standing Committee will report on the explanation and acceptance of opinions of National Assembly deputies in the Delegation on the list of nominees for the National Assembly to elect the President. After discussing and voting on the list to elect the President, the National Assembly will elect the President by secret ballot. Next, the Ballot Counting Committee will report the vote counting results. The National Assembly Standing Committee will submit to the National Assembly a draft Resolution on electing the President for the National Assembly to discuss and vote on. Immediately after the voting results on the Resolution are available, according to the provisions of the Constitution, the new President will take the oath of office and deliver an inaugural speech. Also on May 22, the National Assembly will conduct the process of approving members of the National Defense and Security Council at the request of the President. Regarding the personnel to be elected as President, at the 9th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee held on the morning of May 16, the Central Committee gave its opinion on the personnel for the 15th National Assembly to elect as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term. Specifically, the Central Committee highly agreed to introduce General To Lam, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security, to be elected as President by the 15th National Assembly. The oath-taking ceremony and inauguration speech of the President will be broadcast live on the Government Electronic Information Portal and the Government Electronic Newspaper.
