On the other hand, Vietnam imported nearly 1.5 million tons of cashew nuts, worth 1.8 billion USD, up 8.4% in volume, while the value only increased slightly by 3.4%. Cambodian cashew nuts accounted for 55.5% of the total import turnover of this item in our country in the first half of this year. Accordingly, in the first half of this year, over 780,700 tons of cashew nuts from this country were imported into Vietnam, worth up to 1 billion USD. Vietnam is the world's number one cashew nut exporter. However, the domestic supply of raw materials for processing in our country is still limited, so businesses have to import cashews in large quantities. In addition to Cambodia, businesses also import a large amount of cashews from Africa. However, the situation of importing poor quality cashews to impersonate domestic cashew brands is increasingly common, affecting the reputation and brand of Vietnamese cashews.
Recently, the Binh Phuoc Cashew Association had to “call for help” because of the situation of poor quality products impersonating the province’s cashew brand being sold widely online. The above products are old-crop imported cashew nuts of poor quality. Among them, many of the nuts are wormy and moldy inside, no longer have the characteristic flavor and can affect the health of consumers.
