According to the Khmer Times , Prime Minister Hun Sen's statement was made yesterday (June 7), during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Phnom Penh - Bavet expressway. Mr. Hun Sen said that when the SEA Games and APG officially end, the sports village located near the Morodok Techo National Sports Complex will be put up for sale to raise capital, because it will take another two decades for Cambodia to be able to host another such event.
The Cambodian Prime Minister said: "Regarding the sports village, after the competition is over, it will be sold. But after the next tournament, Cambodia will have to find another location to build another sports village, but that will be 22 years from now."
The sports village is home to many athletes attending SEA Games 32 and APG 12.
Meanwhile, Vath Chamroeun, secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, said the sports village is an investment between the private sector and the government to host the 2023 SEA Games and APG 12. "Currently, we have a national training center located next to the sports village. It can accommodate 550 to 700 sports teams," Mr. Chamroeun said.
The Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia said that after a major sporting event of any country, this type of venue needs to be sold to invest in other projects for the benefit of society and cannot be left empty.

Mr. Sea Rithy, Chairman and CEO of World Bridge Group, the investor in building the sports village, also said that the project to build the sports village aims to reduce the government's burden in providing accommodation for sports teams at the SEA Games and APG, but will be officially taken over by the company after the games.
"Investing in the sports village is our money and the government has offered tax breaks," Sea Rithy , the chairman of World Bridge Group, said, adding that an apartment in the sports village could be sold for $60,000 or more.

In addition, the sports village includes apartments, shop houses, villas, shopping malls, museums and sports facilities.
