At the regular press conference on November 6 organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), Mr. Le Quang Tu Do, Director of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information (MIC), said that after announcing the conclusion of a comprehensive inspection of TikTok Vietnam, a representative of TikTok Singapore (the unit directly managing, operating and providing TikTok services in Vietnam) had a working session with Vietnamese authorities.
Mr. Le Quang Tu Do, Director of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information, provided information on child protection on the TikTok platform.
After the meeting, TikTok Singapore sent a document committing to implementing the requirements of the authorities, especially the commitment to protect children on the TikTok environment. This includes solutions to protect children on the TikTok platform, such as limiting access time for people under 18 years old, deleting accounts of children under 13 years old. Currently, TikTok Singapore is finalizing detailed information on the time, progress, methods and measures to implement the above solutions, and is expected to send them back to the Vietnamese authorities this week.
Mr. Le Quang Tu Do said that in recent months, with the monitoring tools of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the TikTok platform has had positive changes, with toxic content decreasing significantly. TikTok also cooperated well with authorities in preventing malicious accounts. In October, TikTok blocked and removed 53 violating contents (95%). Of which, 44 accounts with content opposing the Party and State, defaming and insulting leaders were deleted.
Earlier in October, the Ministry of Information and Communications announced the results of an interdisciplinary inspection of TikTok's operations in Vietnam, pointing out many violations of TikTok related to the protection of children's rights, such as: TikTok does not have measures or tools to ensure the safety of children's private information.
TikTok also does not detect and remove images, documents, and information that are inappropriate for children and affect their healthy development; does not organize information reception, evaluation, and classification according to the level of safety for children; still allows children under 13 years old to open accounts even though the social networking platform is only for people aged 13 and over...
The interdisciplinary inspection team requested TikTok to implement child protection measures as prescribed in Articles 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, Chapter IV on the responsibility to protect children in the online environment of Decree No. 56/2017/ND-CP (dated May 9, 2017) of the Government detailing a number of articles of the Law on Children.
In particular, special attention should be paid to implementing the following issues: verifying account information to detect cases where children declare incorrect age to use TikTok, deleting accounts of children under 13 years old; limiting access time and using TikTok for people under 18 years old, not allowing children to earn money through TikTok; protecting children's personal information...
