Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism - UNFPA strengthen cooperation in preventing and combating domestic violence

(Fatherland) - On the afternoon of February 6, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy received and worked with Chief Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Vietnam Matt Jackson.


At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy sincerely thanked UNFPA Vietnam for its responsible cooperation and valuable support to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, especially in state management of family; prevention and control of domestic violence; women's empowerment, etc.

In particular, UNFPA has supported the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control; the Decree detailing a number of articles of the Law; the Program on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control in the new situation until 2025 and many other activities...

The Deputy Minister said that the two sides are currently promoting the development of the project "Improving capacity to prevent and respond to gender-based violence at the national and local levels for the period 2025 - 2026". If approved, the project will open up opportunities and solutions to implement the Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence, bringing the Law into life.

Along with that, the Deputy Minister affirmed that over the years, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and UNFPA Vietnam have always accompanied and closely coordinated with each other, aiming towards the goal of promoting gender equality and protecting the rights of women and children right from the family.

Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy expressed her hope that in the coming time, with the motto of seriously implementing the Government's direction on preventing and combating domestic violence, UNFPA Vietnam will support the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in developing a database on preventing and combating domestic violence; through connecting and supporting Vietnam to learn from the experiences of other countries.

In addition, the two sides also need to continue to strongly implement important programs, projects and activities on preventing and combating domestic violence; supporting women and children in vulnerable groups in Vietnam...

The Deputy Minister also proposed that the two agencies consider and coordinate the implementation of a number of activities to provide information and understanding to improve life skills for children; organize projects to promote the role and mission of men in preventing and combating domestic violence.

The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam is entering a new era, an era of national development. In order for the country to develop stably and prosperously, the work of preventing and combating domestic violence will continue to be strongly implemented by Vietnam, for the happiness of the people.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Matt Jackson assessed that Vietnam is one of the countries that always pays attention and has breakthrough solutions to prevent and combat domestic violence; promote gender equality and empower women; actively support women and children in vulnerable groups... To achieve the above positive results, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has clearly demonstrated its role in state management of family.

To expand cooperation between UNFPA and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the coming time, Mr. Matt Jackson suggested that the two sides increase information exchange, cooperate closely, actively and effectively on issues of mutual concern; continue to build and perfect the inter-sectoral coordination mechanism to strengthen cooperation; ensure that cooperation activities take place smoothly, effectively and quickly./.
