The two urban railway projects Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien, Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station (elevated section) and the two expressways Dien Chau - Bai Vot, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao will be completed this year.
Ho Chi Minh City’s first urban railway project, Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien, is expected to be put into commercial operation in July, after 12 years of construction. The nearly 20 km long route from Ben Thanh, District 1 to Long Binh depot, Thu Duc City, has 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations, with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (investor), the contractor is constructing the final items, in parallel with testing the entire route, both underground and elevated. By the end of 2023, the contractors have completed 96% of the total project volume. The underground sections from Ben Thanh station to the City Theater station; the underground sections from the Theater station to Ba Son station have both reached more than 99% of the volume.
In March, the contractor will complete the installation of the electromechanical system; inspect, fix defects as well as calibrate each device, ensuring smooth operation. The operating unit is expected to complete staff training in June.
The trains running on the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien route are manufactured in Japan, with three carriages 61.5 m long and a capacity of 930 passengers (147 seated and 783 standing). According to the design, the train has a maximum speed of 110 km/h on the elevated section and 80 km/h on the underground section.

The Nhon - Hanoi railway line is 12.5 km long, with 8 elevated stations and 4 underground stations, of which the elevated section from Nhon to S9 station (in front of the University of Transport) is 8.5 km long and the remaining 4 km is underground to Hanoi station.
The project started in 2010, with the total investment capital adjusted to over VND34,800 billion in May 2023. The completion date for the entire route is expected to be 2027, 5 years later than previously planned, with the elevated section to be put into commercial operation in the second quarter of 2024.
According to the Hanoi Urban Railway Project Management Board, by November 2023, the overall progress of the project will reach nearly 78%, of which the elevated section will reach 99.5% and the underground section will reach 36.5%.
Trains running the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station route are manufactured in France, each with 4 carriages, capable of carrying 850-950 people, with a commercial operating speed of 35 km/h and a design speed of 80 km/h. The travel time from start to finish of the route is less than 20 minutes, including stops to pick up and drop off passengers.

Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway, part of the North-South Expressway eastern component project in the 2017-2020 period, is expected to be completed in May this year. The 49.3 km long route passes through Nghe An (44.4 km) and Ha Tinh (4.9 km) provinces.
This is one of three sections of the North-South Expressway invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP). Of the more than VND11,150 billion in investment capital, investors mobilized about VND5,090 billion and the State contributed more than VND6,060 billion.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the project's construction output has so far reached about 65% of the contract volume (3% behind schedule). The main reason is that contractors are slow to mobilize equipment and human resources, and have not proactively sourced earth filling materials. The inspection and payment acceptance work is also slow.
Contractors are urgently compensating for slow production, completing the project by May 2024 according to the signed contract. At the construction site, nearly 2,000 engineers, workers and more than 850 locomotives and equipment are urgently working.

Cam Lam - Vinh Hao Expressway, part of the North-South expressway project in the eastern part of the 2017-2020 period, is also scheduled to be completed before April 30 this year. The 78.5 km long expressway passes through three provinces: Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.
According to the Ministry of Transport, by the end of 2023, the project will have completed about 89% of the contract (3.3% behind schedule), some sections have not met requirements such as toll stations and intelligent traffic systems; Thuan Nam intersection... the adjusted design documents have not been completed.
To increase output, the project enterprise has mobilized nearly 2,000 engineers, workers and more than 700 locomotives and equipment to speed up construction, striving to operate the route before March 30.

The North-South Eastern Expressway Project for the 2017-2020 period includes 11 component projects with a total length of 654 km. Of these, 8 component projects are publicly invested with a length of 477 km and 3 projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) method with a length of 177 km.
To date, the Ministry of Transport has put into operation 9 component projects with a total length of 526 km, including: Cao Bo - Mai Son (15.2 km long), Cam Lo - La Son (98.3 km), Mai Son - National Highway 45 (63 km), Nha Trang - Cam Lam (49 km), Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet (108 km), Phan Thiet - Dau Giay (99 km), National Highway 45 - Nghi Son (43 km), Nghi Son - Dien Chau (50 km), My Thuan 2 Bridge (6.6 km).
The remaining two component projects, Dien Chau - Bai Vot and Cam Lam - Vinh Hao, are under construction. In addition, 12 component projects of the North-South Expressway in the 2021-2025 period with a total length of 729 km are also being implemented.
