This morning, December 24, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Health held a conference to deploy health work in 2025. Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long chaired the conference. In 2024, the health sector achieved 3/3 of the main socio-economic targets assigned by the National Assembly. Of which, it exceeded 2 targets on the number of doctors/10,000 people (14 doctors) and the number of hospital beds/10,000 people (34 hospital beds); achieved the target on the rate of population participating in health insurance (94.1%); completed 8/9 specific targets of the sector and field assigned by the Government.
Preventive medicine and primary health care capacity continued to be improved. Infectious diseases were basically controlled and no clusters of cases or large outbreaks occurred in the community. HIV/AIDS prevention and control, non-communicable diseases, and state management of food safety were strengthened. Population programs and projects continued to be implemented, contributing to prolonging and effectively utilizing the golden population structure, adapting to population aging. Medical examination and treatment services continued to be improved in quality and efficiency. Many advanced medical techniques were successfully applied. Promoting the development of satellite hospital networks, applying information technology, and digital transformation.
The key task in 2025 is to continue to promote the development of policies and legal documents; strengthen monitoring and inspection of law enforcement; complete the development and completion of draft laws, projects and documents in the work program of the Government and the Ministry of Health.
Focus on reviewing and streamlining the organizational structure; strengthen administrative reform, inspection, supervision, and fight against corruption, negativity, and waste. Improve preventive medicine capacity, forecast, monitor, and detect epidemics early. Implement a roadmap to increase the number of vaccines in the expanded immunization program for the 2021-2030 period.
Continue to research and perfect the food safety management system and review and develop the Food Safety Law project; strengthen the prevention of food poisoning, HIV/AIDS, and social evils. Effectively implement the Vietnam Population Strategy to 2030; medical examination and treatment; protect and care for mothers and children...
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long acknowledged and highly appreciated the results of the health sector in 2024. At the same time, he pointed out shortcomings and limitations such as some activities in building and perfecting institutions were somewhat slow. In some areas, people's access to health services is still difficult. Some problems that have persisted over the years have not been thoroughly resolved. Administrative reform, application of information technology, and digital transformation still have many shortcomings.
In 2025, the sector needs to focus on building laws, institutions, and policy planning; promptly issue documents to organize the implementation of approved laws and regulations; effectively reorganize the apparatus. Proactively deploy professional orientations to effectively prevent and combat epidemics; strive to effectively carry out digital transformation in the health sector; ensure a good replacement birth rate; and thoroughly handle outstanding issues that cause waste.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long presented the Prime Minister's decision approving the Health Facility Network Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, to the Ministry of Health.
