(NLDO) - The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has requested immediate measures to protect the relic, assess the extent of damage and propose a plan to handle the fire at Lang Ve Pagoda.
Regarding the fire at Lang Ve Pagoda, a national relic in Tho Xuong Ward, Bac Giang City, Bac Giang Province, the Department of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on the afternoon of February 10, said it had received information that the national relic Lang Ve Pagoda caught fire at around 1:00 a.m. on February 10, 2025.

The Department of Cultural Heritage requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Giang province to direct relevant agencies to coordinate with local authorities to urgently conduct a site inspection at the relic, take immediate measures to protect the relic, and at the same time assess the extent of damage and propose a solution, reporting to the People's Committee of Bac Giang province and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism before 10:00 a.m. on February 11, 2025.
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Giang province Nguyen Si Cam said that immediately after the fire broke out at Lang Ve pagoda this morning, February 10, leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and specialized units were present at the site of the relic, preliminarily assessing the current situation, causes and initially directing measures to handle and overcome the consequences as well as promptly proposing a plan to restore and embellish Lang Ve pagoda, meeting the religious needs of the people.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Giang province said that at 1:00 a.m. on February 10, Lang Ve Pagoda, Tho Xuong Ward, Bac Giang City, a national architectural and artistic relic, ranked in 1994, had its Tam Bao building burned down.
In order to have a basis to report to the Provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism according to regulations, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism requests the People's Committee of Bac Giang City to direct relevant agencies and units to promptly report on the fire, clearly identify the cause, and propose measures to handle and overcome the fire.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism assigned the Provincial Museum to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to take detailed photos of the fire scene, compile a photo file with specific annotations (construction objects, wooden structures, documents, artifacts, etc.).
Based on the relic ranking dossier, make an inventory of damaged documents and artifacts (name, material, age, current status, layout diagram, etc.). At the same time, report on the value of Lang Ve pagoda relic, the stages of restoration and embellishment of the pagoda and documents and artifacts in the past, and send the results to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism before 2:00 p.m. on February 11, 2025.
Also following the direction from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Giang, in order to promptly have a plan to ensure the safety of the relic, the Department requested the People's Committee of Bac Giang City to deploy the deployment of increased police forces and local militia to blockade and strictly protect the scene, not allowing unauthorized people to enter or exit.
Immediately deploy a plan to cover the entire area where the fire occurred to ensure the investigation of the authorities.
Lang Ve Pagoda was built around the 17th century during the Le Trung Hung period and was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic in 1994. This is an ancient pagoda with many cultural, architectural and sculptural values. The worship system belongs to the Lam Te Northern sect, the Buddha statues are exquisitely carved, and after nearly 300 years, the splendid red and gold lacquer color is still intact.
Lang Ve Pagoda preserves a system of Buddha statues and many valuable worship objects. Inside the pagoda is a large bell cast during the Le Canh Hung period, with a beautiful shape and clear sound, 1.5 m high and 66 cm in diameter. Each statue in the pagoda is a unique work of art by 17th century artisans that has been preserved to this day.
