Sharing with VietNamNet, Major General Tran Ngoc Thanh, Director of the Department of National Defense and Security Education, Ministry of Education and Training, said that after receiving feedback about new students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology having to eat leftover rice and soup from previous students during their national defense education classes, and even foreign objects such as cockroaches in the food, this morning (October 8), he went to the school to check and review.

“The handling of this issue is under the authority of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The Ministry of Education and Training has inspected, reminded, and requested the school to reorganize meals according to regulations.”

Also according to Mr. Thanh, on September 30, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a document guiding the implementation of national defense and security education tasks. Accordingly, schools need to strictly implement the regulation that students studying national defense and security education must be organized to eat and stay together and organized into squads, platoons, and companies.

Organizing meals for students must ensure the quantity, quality of meals and food hygiene and safety.

According to the information page of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, since 2022, the school has been autonomous in training the subject of National Defense and Security Education. During a continuous month of studying National Defense and Security Education (165 periods), students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology live together, perform management work, maintain discipline and comply with the regime according to the military unit model; each year is divided into 9 main sessions and 1 additional session (summer session); the number of students is from 850-950/session.

Regarding the controversy surrounding student meals, Hanoi University of Science and Technology apologized, took responsibility, publicly and strictly handled related groups and individuals, ensuring the rights of students.

After the incident, the school posted QR codes for students to directly report on issues at the school. Through this method, the school hopes to proactively grasp students’ thoughts and wishes, avoiding situations where problems occur but the school is unaware.
