According to data released by DSCC, the number of display panels produced for the iPhone 15 series is 16% higher than that of the iPhone 14 series in the same period in October. For the basic iPhone 15 model alone, the number of screens shipped is 21% higher than that of the iPhone 13 in 2021. Notably, the iPhone 15 Pro duo accounts for 71% of the total number of panels shipped, up 6% compared to the previous generation (in September of the launch year).
The iPhone 15 Pro is selling better than previous generations
Samsung Display (SDC) remains the No. 1 screen supplier for Apple to install on iPhones, accounting for 81% of the delivery output in the June-October period to meet the demand for the iPhone 15 series. SDC also holds 81% of the iPhone 14 series generation in the same period and 79% for the iPhone 13 series. Currently, this is also the only manufacturer with a contract to supply screens for all 4 iPhone models (in each generation) launched consecutively in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
LG Display (LGD) started shipping iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max screens in September and accounted for about 18% of the total as of the end of October. BOE - a major manufacturer from China also joined the list of screen suppliers, but only accounted for 1%.
One of the notable details from the DSCC report is that this year's iPhone 15 Pro is more popular than ever. "The number of display panels for the two iPhone 15 Pro models is higher than that of the iPhone 14 Pro and 13 Pro in the period from June to October," said David Naranjo, senior research director at DSCC.
This year, the iPhone 15 Pro has no price change compared to the iPhone 14 Pro (same $999 for the standard version) at the time of launch. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is $100 more expensive than its predecessor ($1,199 compared to $1,099) due to the increase in minimum memory capacity from 128 GB to 256 GB, making the average selling price (ASP) of the iPhone 15 series 5% higher than its "senior".
