Vietnam starts construction of plasma biological product factory, 600,000 liters of plasma/year

Instead of having to import plasma biological products to treat patients, which is costly, Vietnam has the first factory producing plasma biological products located in the High-Tech Park (HCMC).

On January 6, at the High-Tech Park (HCMC), a groundbreaking ceremony for a plasma biological products factory took place. If the project is on schedule, this will be the first plasma biological products factory in Vietnam, pioneered by Binh Viet Duc Company Limited.

The factory is expected to come into operation in February 2026, with a capacity to fractionate 600,000 liters of plasma per year, meeting the treatment needs of 250 million people.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said the project is a turning point, an important milestone in the development journey of the entire Vietnamese pharmaceutical industry.

Currently, the domestic pharmaceutical industry mainly produces generic drugs (copies of branded drugs with similar active ingredients) and depends on raw material sources. The number of high-tech drugs, specialized drugs for treating emerging diseases... serving medical examination and treatment is still limited.

According to reports from units, the demand for plasma and plasma fraction products for treatment needs in Vietnam is quite large, and every year a large amount of foreign currency is still spent to import plasma fraction products to serve treatment needs.

However, due to the lack of plasma fractionation plants and the lack of mastery of related technologies, plasma after separation from whole blood is mainly used in its raw form in the treatment of a number of diseases.

The Deputy Minister of Health called on domestic and foreign businesses and investors to boldly invest in the pharmaceutical industry, gradually affirming the position of Vietnamese pharmaceuticals in the international market.

The project aims to ensure strategic medical reserves for the country, ready to respond to epidemics and natural disasters.

At the same time, reduce dependence on imported pharmaceutical sources, towards comprehensive healthcare autonomy, in accordance with the Government 's orientation and policy on self-production and supply of pharmaceuticals.

What diseases are plasma biological products used to treat?

Since 2018, Binh Viet Duc Company has been a pioneer in Vietnam in collecting qualified plasma at major hospitals such as: Blood Transfusion - Hematology Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City, Thanh Hoa.

From this source of raw materials, essential biological products such as albumin, globulin, factors VIII and IX will be produced and supplied nationwide.
