Family tragedy in 'Rain on the butterfly'

Rain on the Butterfly Wings (English title Don't Cry Butterfly ) is an art house film with the director's personal mark. The content revolves around Mrs. Tam (played by Tu Oanh) who discovers her husband - Mr. Thanh (Le Vu Long) is having an affair. Instead of talking, she decides to go to a shaman to perform a spell in the hope that her husband will return. Their daughter, Ha (Nam Linh), wants to escape the family tragedy with the dream of studying abroad in Europe.

Many scenes show the family's apartment leaking from the ceiling. Mrs. Tam and her daughter are always trying to fix it in vain - similar to the family's deadlock in the marital relationship and between parents and children. Dieu Linh clearly shows the audience that the lack of dialogue between members always brings coldness and of course will lead to not very good results. Mr. Thanh is always silent, saying only one sentence; Mrs. Tam has to manage everything in the house with her daughter who is not close to her. The film skillfully explores the themes of marriage, showing the relationship between parents and children and vice versa and the complex communication barriers with both subtlety and humor.

Right at the beginning of the film, the audience can see "typical" images of Hanoi's lifestyle: the sound of old people waking up early to exercise, the voice of the shopkeeper starting to call out, and the sound of bowls and chopsticks preparing breakfast from the apartments in the collective housing area... Director Duong Dieu Linh said: " Rain on the Butterfly Wings is Hanoi in my memory, both past and present. The settings were chosen with the intention of recreating the fast-paced, chaotic life of a modern Hanoi, where people can rarely find a quiet moment to slow down and talk to themselves".

Rain on the Butterfly Wings is a special film for the crew members. This is not only Duong Dieu Linh's first film, but also the first film in which artist Tu Oanh plays the main role; it is also the first time that two young faces Nam Linh - Bui Thac Phong (son of actress Tu Oanh and director Bui Thac Chuyen) have entered the film industry. The film will be released in theaters from January 3, 2025.
