At noon on April 1, Truong Sa Island Infirmary, Truong Sa District, Khanh Hoa Province received and provided emergency care to fisherman Pham Anh (53 years old, residing in Binh Duong Commune, Binh Son District, Quang Ngai Province) who was injured when a coracle on a fishing boat fell on his head while he was working.
At around 4 p.m. on March 31, while fishing on fishing boat QNg 95255 TS near Thuyen Chai Island, Mr. Anh was hit in the head by a basket boat, causing him to lose consciousness for a short time. Afterwards, Mr. Anh felt a headache, dizziness, and heavy bleeding from the top of his head.
The captain of fishing boat QNg 95255 TS sent a signal for help to the authorities.
Receiving instructions from superiors on rescuing fishermen in distress at sea, Truong Sa Island Infirmary proactively contacted fishing boat QNg 95255 TS to provide first aid instructions for the victim and prepare professionally to receive the patient.
At 12:30 p.m. on April 1, Mr. Anh was taken to Truong Sa Island Infirmary by fishing boat QNg 95255 TS for emergency treatment. He was conscious and able to communicate but still had a headache, was dizzy, and had blood still flowing from the top of his head.
Through examination, doctors at Truong Sa Infirmary discovered a 15cm long skin wound on the top of his head, with many foreign objects (sand) stuck to it, the bottom of his skull was exposed, and bleeding; he was diagnosed with a concussion and a head wound caused by a work accident.
The on-call medical team took skull X-rays, blood tests, and emergency care, treated the head wound, reduced pain, swelling, inflammation, antibiotics, and protected brain cells; at the same time, they predicted that the patient was at risk of head wound infection and progressive brain damage.
Currently, the on-duty teams of Truong Sa Island Infirmary continue to monitor and treat Mr. Anh with measures to relieve pain, reduce swelling, fight inflammation, protect brain cells, closely monitor headaches, wound condition, and promptly report any abnormalities./.
