Former Man Utd midfielder and current Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham revealed he suddenly received thousands of messages the morning Lionel Messi announced his transfer to the club.
Last month, Messi announced that he would move to the United States to play for Inter Miami after his contract with French club PSG expired. He turned down the world's highest-paid offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. Barca also wanted to sign the 36-year-old striker, but financial regulations in La Liga prevented them from doing so.
"A few weeks ago, I woke up and saw thousands of messages on my phone. I thought, 'What's going on?'. I don't usually get that many messages. Suddenly, I heard Leo had spoken up and announced he was moving to Miami," Beckham told the Daily Mail .

As one of the co-owners of Inter Miami, Beckham said he was not surprised by Messi's decision and was confident of convincing the Argentine captain. With Messi on the team, Inter Miami will be one of the most exciting teams to watch not only in MLS but around the world.
"I've said before that if I had the opportunity to bring the best players in the world to the club at any point in their careers, I would do it. So when I heard one of the best, if not the best, wanted to play for this club, it was a special moment for us. Messi is still young, still good and still doing his job," Beckham said.
Recently, Beckham's co-owner of Inter Miami, Jorge Mas, revealed that he had been chasing Messi for three years before securing his signature. Messi's former teammate Sergio Busquets followed him to Miami while another La Liga legend, Sergio Ramos, has also left open the possibility of joining the club. Messi is expected to make his Inter Miami debut on July 21, against Mexican club Cruz Azul.

During the interview, Beckham was also asked about his memories of his playing days. The 48-year-old midfielder revealed that he did not watch Man Utd play for three years after leaving Old Trafford due to a conflict with his former coach Alex Ferguson. Beckham left Man Utd in 2003 after 11 years with the club and moved to Real Madrid.
"I always thought I would start and end at Man Utd. I never intended to leave or play for another club. Maybe that's why I couldn't watch Man Utd on TV for the next three years. I was very sad to support Man Utd and play for the club," he shared.
