Visiting and encouraging Thao Ng.'s family, Minister Dao Hong Lan highly appreciated the spirit and responsibility of the doctors of Bach Mai Hospital in joining hands with the whole people and the entire health sector to overcome the consequences of storms and floods.

The Minister also shared the losses that the families of the sick children and the victims of the recent floods had to endure, hoping that the families would soon overcome the pain and stabilize their lives.

Previously, on September 11, Bach Mai Hospital received patient Thao Ng. from Lao Cai General Hospital in a state of pneumonia due to drowning and inhaling mud, complications of progressive respiratory failure, multiple injuries (right clavicle fracture, right liver dislocation, soft tissue damage in many places).

At Bach Mai Hospital, the child is monitored and treated for septic shock, multiple organ failure, blood clotting disorders, disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome due to blood clotting disorders, and acute rhabdomyolysis syndrome.

The treatment process showed that the patient was in critical condition due to severe multiple organ failure. In particular, one of the patient's serious problems was that the X-ray showed that the lungs had many abscesses, due to the lungs inhaling mud and being soaked in water for a long time. Through bronchoscopy and lung lavage, the suctioned solution contained a lot of mud and foreign objects.

The child patient was consulted many times throughout Bach Mai Hospital by leading experts to find the best treatment regimen. Bach Mai Hospital invited Professor - Dr. Hashimoto, a respiratory specialist from the National Center for Global Health and Medicine Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, to join the consultation.

Directly participating in the consultation and treatment of the child patient, Associate Professor Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, directed the highest concentration of all resources in terms of human resources, material resources, medicine, and medical supplies to treat and care for the child.

After 2 weeks of intensive treatment and care, today, patient Thao Ng. has shown some improvement. The patient is awake, can talk, eat through a tube and digest almost normally.

However, the patient is still in serious condition and must use a ventilator, use a combination of antibiotics, maintain a special diet and receive rehabilitation.

“The patient’s serious problem is still the lungs due to inhaling mud and being submerged in water for a long time. X-rays show that the lungs still have many abscesses and a lot of phlegm. This afternoon, the hospital will continue to consult to focus all the best resources to treat the child,” Associate Professor Vu Van Giap, Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital, shared.
