After more than 3 weeks of focusing all resources to overcome the severe consequences caused by storm No. 3, from September 30, Quang Ninh Museum reopened to welcome visitors, 1 day earlier than previously planned. On this occasion, the Museum also introduced an automatic guide service to meet the needs of many domestic and international visitors.

Storm No. 3 (Yagi) with its terrible destructive power caused severe damage to Quang Ninh Museum, a key tourism project of the province with unique architecture. Thousands of square meters of glass were broken, many steel frames were blown away, severely damaged; miniature trees fell down, houses and poster panels were blown away; many walls were broken and water-stained; the electricity and water systems were damaged; the environment was scattered with a lot of solid waste...
Since September 16, the provincial museum leadership has launched a 15-day and night campaign to mobilize all staff, workers, and laborers to participate in overcoming the consequences, determined to reopen as soon as possible. With the support of the military and militia, just one week after the storm, the appearance of the museum has gradually been restored.
Mr. Do Quyet Tien, Director of Quang Ninh Museum, said: After working with insurance companies, the total estimated cost to repair the damage is nearly 4 billion VND. Of which, the 1,000 m2 of broken and damaged outdoor glass alone, the estimated cost of repair and new installation is nearly 2 billion VND. Currently, we have only temporarily repaired the damage and will carry out the construction as soon as possible. For other damaged facilities, we have proactively advanced funds to immediately carry out repairs, avoiding prolonged closure. As a financially autonomous unit, in addition to the costs covered by insurance, we will have to mobilize our own resources and make efforts to overcome difficulties.

On the morning of September 30, after reopening, the museum welcomed many international delegations to visit. Mr. Tiam Lawtiantong, a tourist from Thailand, shared: Our group of 14 people had planned a trip to Quang Ninh for a long time. When we learned that Quang Ninh suffered great damage due to storm No. 3, we were quite worried. But when we arrived, everything was back to normal. I was very impressed with the museum visit today, especially the space about Yen Tu - Tran Dynasty Buddhism, where we are standing here. Thailand is a Buddhist country, so I felt the harmony and spent a lot of time listening to the introduction.
Along with general cleaning, repairing and reinforcing the infrastructure, in recent days, the Provincial Museum has also spent time adjusting the display space, maintaining and adding artifacts, ensuring scientific quality and more diverse content.
In particular, on the reopening day, the Auto Guide automatic explanation system was officially put into service for visitors, after a long period of preparation. The content editorial team selected the most unique and outstanding artifacts in each exhibition space, invested time in researching many reliable sources of documents, ensuring the criteria of correct, attractive and concise explanation content. In about 1 minute and 30 seconds, visitors can grasp information about the artifacts and related historical context. Currently, the system has 2 languages, Vietnamese and English, and will continue to be upgraded, based on visitors' feedback. This is an effort of the Museum to promote digital transformation and improve service quality.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, Head of Service Management and Exploitation Department, Quang Ninh Museum, said: Currently, international visitors to the Museum are increasingly diverse in terms of nationality and language, so this service is extremely necessary. In addition, the automatic explanation system will be very useful when the number of visitors is overloaded, in the context that the museum's tour guide team has less than 10 people. In particular, this service is aimed at visitors who want peace and initiative in their journey, to learn about the artifacts they like. After the trial period, we will collect feedback from visitors to make adjustments and upgrade more languages such as Chinese and French. In addition, we are also preparing to attach QR codes for visitors to scan the codes with their phones to learn about the artifacts.

Ms. Vu Thi Kim Anh, a tourist from Hai Phong, after experiencing the Auto Guide system of Quang Ninh Museum, expressed her satisfaction: In the recent storm, Quang Ninh province in general and Quang Ninh Museum in particular suffered heavy damage, so this time my family decided to travel to Ha Long and visit the Museum as a form of support. In particular, I was one of the first visitors to use the automatic guide system and found it very convenient to be able to actively explore the spaces and artifacts I like.
Since the beginning of 2024, Quang Ninh Museum has welcomed nearly 682,000 visitors, with ticket sales revenue of nearly 20 billion VND. In the last months of the year, Quang Ninh Museum will continue to closely coordinate with travel agencies, promote digital transformation, improve service quality, and strive to meet the target of welcoming 800,000 visitors assigned by the province, with ticket sales revenue reaching 22.6 billion VND.
