The US newspaper National Interest wrote: Russia's Iskander-1000 missile system poses a threat to Western countries due to its impressive features.

"The Iskander-1000 is distinguished by more solid fuel, a new engine, improved flight control and guidance systems," the article stressed, noting that the missile system has proven its effectiveness in the area of special operations in Ukraine. Thanks to its long range, the weapon can strike targets deep inside the countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
"This missile seems ideal for shooting down the much-vaunted F-16 (US) military aircraft," the author of the article commented.
In November 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the modernized Iskander missile is similar to all three improved versions of the ATACMS ballistic missile. The leader noted that while the destructive power in terms of TNT equivalent is the same, the Iskander has a longer range than other missiles.
The Iskander, Russia's tactical missile system, is highly maneuverable and can penetrate missile defense systems, making it a very effective offensive weapon.
With a length of 7.2 m, a diameter of 0.95 m, a flight weight of 3.8 tons, a warhead of 380 kg, and the ability to fly at an altitude of 50 km, this missile has a range designed to attack targets within a range of 50 to 500 km.
The missile's guidance system has also been modified to suit the strong electronic countermeasures environment and increase accuracy when attacking targets.
During the nearly three-year conflict, Russia has repeatedly used the Iskander to attack high-value Ukrainian targets, including frontline command posts, armored vehicle staging areas, ammunition depots, Patriot air defense missile batteries, and HIMARS artillery vehicles.
The special feature of this missile line is its ability to fly without a conventional trajectory, making it very difficult to intercept and the missile is controlled throughout the entire flight. Each Iskander missile launcher usually carries 2 missiles.
Iskander is said to be very effective in destroying fixed enemy military facilities such as airports, warehouses, command centers, etc.
