Understanding the difficulties and challenges that startups face, the press becomes a bridge to bring their stories and products closer to customers and partners, giving founders more confidence to continue on the chosen path.

Mr. Le Trong Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Investment Newspaper (second from left) shares information with businessmen at an event organized by Investment Newspaper.

Spread the startup story

Tran Bao Huy, Founder of Vietnam Cactus Company Limited, could not hide his joy, mixed with a bit of surprise, when he learned that his startup story was published in Dau Tu Newspaper, issue dated May 15, 2024, which is also his birthday.

Huy has been in the news a few times before, sharing his story of “leaving the city to return to the countryside” with his wife. But with the journey of building the Leafking brand - the first food line in Vietnam processed directly from the Nopal cactus, Huy said that Dau Tu Newspaper was the first newspaper to spread the startup story that he had spent a lot of effort, sweat and tears on.

Holding the newspaper in his hand, the 8x founder reminisced about his early days in the profession, growing, processing, and giving products to relatives and friends to try. The most memorable was when he first made a bottle of Leafking cactus drink, only about 100 ml, but because the taste was so bad, 4 people couldn't finish a bottle.

“Thank you Dau Tu Newspaper for drawing my journey into the profession. The article is really good and speaks for everyone. The company's revenue is still small, the number of purchases for the people is still small, but I believe the future will be different, keep moving forward firmly”, Tran Bao Huy expressed.

Not only Tran Bao Huy, many founders also agree that the press plays an important role in the development journey of startups. The path to entrepreneurship is never easy, always facing challenges in terms of capital, market, public awareness... The press, with its power of communication and information provision, becomes a bridge to bring businesses' products and services closer to customers, helping businesses affirm their brands, opening up new cooperation opportunities...

Nguyen Thi Thuy Dinh, Founder of Aloha 3D (a start-up specializing in producing personalized miniature statues), said that Dau Tu Newspaper was not the first newspaper to exploit her startup story, but Dinh was very impressed with the way the story was developed in the article published in Dau Tu Newspaper. The article focused on small details, such as the fact that Dinh graduated from the Faculty of Business Law (University of Law, Vietnam National University, Hanoi), but chose to put aside her professional work to pursue her dream.

A few days after the article was published, Dinh received several invitations for cooperation, including partners from Australia and Canada. Many customers contacted Aloha 3D to order statues, sending them links to articles about Dinh's story.

“Until now, if you search for Dinh's name on Google, Dau Tu Newspaper's article still appears first,” the founder of Aloha 3D excitedly shared.

In the context of the current information explosion, Dinh still believes that the mainstream press is an irreplaceable channel, due to its strictness in verifying and controlling information. In addition to the widespread impact on her products, the Founder of Aloha 3D added that she was "inspired" by the stories and business lessons of many previous founders, thereby gaining a more multi-dimensional perspective, more positive thinking, helping herself and her business gain more strength to overcome many difficult times.

Strengthening the relationship between press and business

According to CEO Phan Anh Vu, Founder of the Beecube projector brand, the relationship between startups and the press is a two-way relationship, closely linked and mutually supportive. Businesses need the press to have information to serve production and business; promote brands, products, services, and encourage creative labor achievements. On the contrary, businesses and entrepreneurs are a rich and diverse source of topics for journalism activities, serving the information needs of society.

“Therefore, increasing the relationship between the press and businesses through each historical period is necessary, demonstrating an inevitable symbiotic relationship,” Phan Anh Vu affirmed.

In reality, businesses need the help of the press, but the press does not always have access to businesses. Many businesses, despite their good development, always hide or refuse to share information with the press.

Ms. Le Dung, CEO of Dgroup Human Resources Training and Development Joint Stock Company, shared that many businesses and entrepreneurs are afraid to answer interviews, afraid to appear on camera, thinking that it is a “waste of time”, so they refuse to meet the press. Besides, there are also businesses that agree, but assign the administrative department to receive journalists, providing sketchy information... In particular, some businesses are prejudiced that journalists come only to “investigate” bad things.

“Both sides need to have the right perspective on each other. In my opinion, in addition to promoting products and brands, press information also helps businesses in many areas such as encouraging emulation movements of workers; exchanging and learning management experiences, improving product quality; creating a good image for businesses in the eyes of the public; conveying business suggestions to all levels to help solve difficulties, creating conditions for businesses to develop...”, Ms. Dung said.

Therefore, paying attention to the press and creating conditions for journalists to approach businesses is something that should be done and needs to be done. “Businesses and the press need to be closer and understand each other better to share, cooperate and develop together,” Ms. Dung acknowledged.

Each newspaper needs to build a specific reader portrait.

- Doan Hong Trung, Founder, CEO Delta X

I maintain the habit of reading newspapers using Google's aggregator site, because this tool provides the right information that suits my "taste" and I can control the quality of the information I receive.

I believe that information in newspapers is 80% more trustworthy than information posted on social media. Newspapers are still an important channel for information and communication. However, stories in newspapers only spread when each newspaper builds a specific reader profile and appears where readers spend most of their time.

The most reliable information channel

Not only is it a bridge to create a positive image and promote the brand, the press also provides information for businesses to understand customer needs, information from partners, and the development of domestic and foreign markets, thereby helping businesses find a development direction.

Compared to the uncensored, floating information that is spreading on social networks, information on press channels is selected, verified and reliable information, helping the posted brand become more prestigious in the market, increasing reliability. In any historical period, the press has been, is and will be the most reliable information channel for businesses to increase brand recognition.

Articles in Investment Newspaper are all in-depth.

- Lam Duc Anh, Co-founder of Stir

The press will always play a specific role in corporate communication activities in all eras. Authentic articles are very helpful for start-ups, especially in the food and service industry. For Stir, after our start-up story appeared in Dau Tu Newspaper, Stir’s brand as well as my own was enhanced.

I evaluate that the information on Investment Newspaper is highly authentic, the articles are in-depth, not “sensational headlines, clickbait”. I wish Investment Newspaper to continue to promote and exploit the potential and internal strength of each writer, so that the Investment Newspaper collective can go further in the future.

Expecting Investment Newspaper to create more playgrounds to promote entrepreneurial spirit

- Bui Dang Minh, Founder of PAD Group Vietnam Co., Ltd.

The mainstream press is always the most valuable media channel in Vietnam, providing accurate and selective information to readers. The role of the press for startups is very important, giving us the opportunity to communicate the unique values of our products and businesses closer to readers.

I hope that in the future, the press in general and Investment Newspaper in particular will design many programs to connect start-ups, creating vertical start-up communities. The press can build bridges between ministries, departments, sectors and businesses, between businesses and readers, increasing the information that readers like and businesses need. I hope Investment Newspaper will create more playgrounds to promote the spirit of start-ups; have awards to honor start-ups with missions and products aimed at the community...
