On December 3, Mr. Ho Minh Trieu - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Hoa commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An - said that a local household had just harvested a pair of deer antlers weighing nearly 8.7 kg.
The owner of the pair of deer antlers is Mr. Dao Xuan Thuan and his wife, residing in Hamlet 6, Quynh Hoa Commune.

Mr. Thuan and his wife just cut the antlers yesterday afternoon (December 2). The event attracted dozens of surrounding households because this pair of deer antlers is considered the largest in Quynh Luu district this year.
The harvested pair of velvet antlers is more than 60cm long, has a shape like a cockscomb flower on top, and weighs 8.67kg.
According to Mr. Thuan, this deer is a native deer breed, raised by his family since 2015. This is the 6th year the deer has yielded antlers.
"The first year, this deer only produced a pair of antlers weighing 1.1kg, then the weight of the antlers gradually increased each year. Last year, its pair of antlers weighed 7.85kg," said Mr. Thuan.

Currently, Mr. Thuan's family's pair of deer antlers has been bought by a trader for 50 million VND.
Mr. Thuan's family is raising a herd of 10 deer, both for breeding and for harvesting antlers. Mr. Thuan believes that deer are easy to raise and have few diseases. To have a large pair of antlers, the most important step is choosing the breed, followed by deer care techniques.
In addition to growing many types of vegetables to ensure food for deer, during the season when these animals grow antlers, Mr. Thuan feeds them additional starches such as corn bran, cassava, bananas...

With a herd of 10 deer, along with selling breeding animals and antlers, Mr. Thuan's family earns about 300 million VND per year on average.
According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Hoa Commune, currently, many households in the area are developing a deer breeding model with a total herd of 300 animals. This is an economic development direction that brings high efficiency to local people.
