This afternoon, November 24, in Hue City, the Management Board of Thua Thien - Hue Industrial Economic Zone coordinated with Chan May Port Joint Stock Company to organize a conference connecting shipping lines - businesses with container cargo through Chan May Port.
Mr. Huynh Van Toan, General Director of Chan May Port Joint Stock Company, said that after more than 1 year of implementing container cargo services, Chan May Port has achieved certain results in receiving and unloading goods.
More and more container ships are docking at Chan May port.
Specifically, the port has attracted more than 65 container ships (44 domestic and 21 international), with an output of 7,370 TEUs, equivalent to 110,640 tons of cargo. It is expected that by the end of 2023, there will be 12 more domestic and 4 international ships with an output of 1,716 TEUs, equivalent to about 28,350 tons of cargo.
The budget to support shipping lines, businesses, organizations and individuals with goods transported by container through the port until the end of 2023 is about 18 billion VND.
The source of imported and exported containers through Chan May port is quite diverse. In addition to local goods (beer, frit, ceramic tiles, quartz, rice, rubber, construction materials, packaging...), there are also some sources of goods from Quang Tri (rubber), Quang Binh (plywood), Da Nang, Quang Nam (soft drinks, milk) and from Laos (rubber).
However, Chan May port is currently facing difficulties and limitations, such as some businesses that are used to importing and exporting container goods in Da Nang are reluctant to change. Changing the port of export and import of container goods also depends on the commercial conditions signed with foreign partners. There is still no certain connection and cooperation between businesses, shipping lines and logistics companies; there are difficulties in attracting goods sources due to the decline in global and domestic trade...
At the conference, many container import-export enterprises expressed their desire to dock at Chan May port to shorten the distance and transportation time to reduce costs. Enterprises also recommended that Thua Thien - Hue province have preferential policies to attract container ships to load and unload goods at Chan May port.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien - Hue province, said that the Provincial People's Council has issued a separate resolution to encourage and attract container shipping lines and businesses with import and export activities to do business at Chan May port. These are Resolution No. 18/2022/NQ-HDND dated September 7, 2022 and Adjusted Resolution No. 25/2022/NQ-HDND dated December 8, 2022.
Initial results show that the policy has been put into practice, promoting business activities and import-export development for Thua Thien - Hue and the entire key economic region of the Central region, spreading to Laos through the East - West Economic Corridor...
In 2023, Chan May port will welcome more than 80 container ships.
“Through this conference, Thua Thien - Hue province hopes and requests relevant departments, branches, localities, business community, and shipping lines to continue to accompany and find many mechanisms, policies, and solutions to remove difficulties and obstacles, bringing about more efficiency, practicality, and reality," said Mr. Hoang Hai Minh.
