Hanoi Doctor Vu Thi Nhung, 39 years old, the victim who almost died in the fire at the mini apartment building in Khuong Ha, is now healthy and has been discharged from the hospital.

On the afternoon of October 13, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said that Dr. Nhung, working at the Center for Pathology and Cytology, is currently in stable health and can return to work normally from next week.

"This is truly a miracle," Associate Professor Co said, adding that when the patient was admitted to the hospital, she was in shock, coma due to smoke inhalation, respiratory failure, multiple organ failure due to toxic gas poisoning, and her condition was very critical. The doctors consulted many times, and it was thought that the patient would not survive, but with all their efforts, the female doctor gradually recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

Recalling the fire on the night of September 12, Dr. Nhung said that at 11 p.m., she was preparing to go to bed when she heard loud shouting downstairs. When she opened the door, she saw a lot of smoke and knew there was a fire, so she and her husband and sister quickly covered their noses with wet towels. After that, she gradually fainted, and luckily was found by rescuers and taken to the emergency room.

Ms. Nhung was taken to Bach Mai Hospital for intensive treatment, while her husband and sister suffered less severe asphyxiation and were treated at Ha Dong General Hospital and discharged early. After two days of treatment at Bach Mai Hospital, she regained her reflexes and realized that she was being treated at her workplace. "When I realized that my whole family was fine, I felt more steadfast and could not give up," the female doctor shared.

Due to severe lung damage and a long treatment process, she had difficulty eating and exercising. "There were times when it took her 30 minutes to drink a carton of milk, and many nights at 2-3am she had to endure the pain to sip and drink little by little. Gradually, my condition improved, I could eat porridge, soup, pureed food... and tried until the day I was discharged from the hospital. Up to now, my health has recovered 90%," said the female doctor.

Currently, she has brought her two daughters from the countryside and her family is temporarily renting a small house on Chua Boc street, hoping to soon stabilize their lives.

Bach Mai Hospital has donated nearly 1.4 billion VND to support Dr. Nhung's family. This is the heart and sentiment of more than 4,000 officials, employees, the health sector's trade union and colleagues from other hospitals for the female doctor who was injured in the fire.

Regarding the fire, Bach Mai Hospital received 31 adults, the oldest of whom was over 80 years old; 8 children, the youngest 8 months old. After being treated at Center A9, the victims were transferred to many units for treatment according to their individual condition such as multiple injuries, coma due to smoke inhalation, heart and lung damage, brain damage, etc. To date, most of the patients have been discharged from the hospital.

The mini apartment fire in Khuong Ha occurred at midnight on September 12. This apartment building has 9 floors, an attic, with about 45 apartments, and more than 150 people. Hanoi police determined 56 people died, 37 were injured. The owner of the mini apartment building was prosecuted and detained for 4 months to serve the investigation.
