The latest informal meeting with some representatives of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its dialogue partners on the Myanmar issue took place in Pattaya city, hosted by Thailand to guide an ASEAN-led solution.

The meeting was attended by representatives from nine countries, including seven ASEAN members and representatives from China and India. Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia did not attend the meeting.

Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai said the meeting had some positive outcomes, although he did not specify what specific measures were discussed. He added that delegates expressed satisfaction with the meeting. Many issues of mutual interest were discussed, including the current situation along the border, fraud and other transnational crimes.

However, the outcome of the above meeting has not been considered for presentation at the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and other related discussions such as the upcoming ASEAN Regional Forum.

In response to criticism of the meeting, which said Thailand should raise the issue for the benefit of all ASEAN, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Thailand had already taken its own policy in line with the ASEAN resolution on Myanmar. He also suggested Thailand be more proactive because it shares a border with Myanmar, and if the issue is not resolved soon, it will impact Thailand's labor sector.
