The Apple Vision Pro starts at $3,499 and will be available in the US on February 2. This is the first new product category from the “bitten apple” since the Apple Watch in 2015. However, Wall Street does not expect the company to sell as many Vision Pros as other products such as the iPhone, Apple Watch or Mac.
“We believe Vision Pro’s success in 2024 will be modest and has longer-term potential,” Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring wrote in a note to investors in December 2023.
Meanwhile, UBS analyst David Vogt estimates that Apple will generate about $1.4 billion in revenue from Vision Pro in 2024, assuming it ships about 400,000 devices. By comparison, the iPhone contributed $43.81 billion to Apple in the third quarter of 2023.
The lowest-priced Vision Pro model has 256GB of storage and an M2 chip. There’s also a 512GB version for $3,699 and a 1TB version for $3,899. The headset offers a “spatial computing” experience, serving as a virtual reality screen for people to watch movies or “pin” different apps to view while still observing the real world.
Apple’s pre-order website requires customers to use an iPhone or iPad with Face ID to find the right fit. In addition to the one-time payment option, the company also offers a 12-month installment plan.
Vision Pro was announced by Apple at WWDC 2023.
