Satellite images show two Iranian missile bases attacked by Israel

(CLO) Israel's attack on Iran damaged secret military bases southeast of Iran's capital, believed to be related to the country's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.

Satellite images show damage to several buildings at Iran's Parchin military base after an Israeli strike on October 26. The base is where the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) suspects Iran has tested high explosives that could trigger nuclear weapons. Iran has long insisted its nuclear program is peaceful.

Some damage was also reported at the nearby Khojir military base, where analysts believe there is an underground tunnel system and missile production sites.

Iran's military did not acknowledge damage in Khojir or Parchin from the Israeli attack, but said the attack killed four Iranian soldiers working in the country's air defense system.

The Institute for Science and International Security has identified the destroyed building at the Parchin base on the mountainside as “Taleghan 2.” It added on the morning of October 27: “It is uncertain whether Iran used uranium at ‘Taleghan 2.’

Rafael Mariano Grossi, head of the IAEA, confirmed on X that Iran's nuclear facilities were not affected. "Inspectors continue their important work. I urge caution and restraint from actions that could jeopardize the safety and security of nuclear and other radioactive materials," he added.

Other buildings destroyed at the Khojir and Parchin bases may have been buildings where Iran used industrial mixers to create the solid fuel needed for its massive ballistic missile arsenal.

In a statement released shortly after the October 26 attack, the Israeli military said it targeted “missile production facilities used to produce missiles that Iran has fired at the state of Israel over the past year.”

Destroying such sites could significantly disrupt Iran’s ability to produce new ballistic missiles after two attacks on Israel. Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, which oversees the country’s ballistic missile program, has remained silent since the Oct. 26 attack.

Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, then commander of the US military's Central Command, estimated Iran's overall ballistic missile arsenal, including short-range missiles that cannot reach Israel, at "well over 3,000" in testimony before the US Senate in 2022.

A factory appeared to have been hit in the industrial city of Shamsabad, just south of Tehran near Imam Khomeini International Airport, Iran’s main international gateway. Online videos of the damaged building matched the address of a company called TIECO, which advertises itself as building advanced machinery used in Iran’s oil and gas industry.
