Coach Sam Allardyce used Real's defeat to Man City to boost his team's fighting spirit.

In the second leg of the Champions League semi-final on May 17, host Man City crushed Real 4-0. But about 10 days earlier, at the same stadium, Leeds only lost 1-2. "I've seen Real lose in a different way to us," Leeds coach Sam Allardyce told the Times with a laugh on May 19.

Leeds are currently 18th in the Premier League, with 31 points from 36 games, one point behind Everton. If they fail to escape the bottom three after the final two rounds, Leeds will be relegated to the First Division.

Leeds appointed Allardyce as manager on 3 May. In the first match, the former England coach helped the team avoid a big defeat against Man City. In the second match, they held another team in the top 4, Newcastle, with a score of 2-2.

"Hopefully we can find a way to keep Leeds in the Premier League," said Allardyce. "I think we have the right ingredients."

When he was appointed Leeds manager, Allardyce caused a stir by claiming he was on the same level as Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta. But he later corrected himself. "I said that to take the pressure off the players and focus on myself," Allardyce explained. "I never considered myself better than them."

Leeds will play their penultimate match of the 2022-2023 Premier League season at West Ham on May 20. They will finish the season with a match against Tottenham on May 28. Meanwhile, Everton will face Wolves and Bournemouth.

The 0-4 loss to Man City was Real's biggest defeat in European competition since losing 0-4 to Liverpool in 2009. The Champions League "King" lost 1-5 to Man City. The English team will meet Inter in the final on June 10, in Istanbul, Türkiye. In the other semi-final, Inter beat Milan 3-0 on aggregate.

Allardyce, who is best known for his managerial roles at Bolton and West Ham, took charge of England in 2016, but left after just one game. He was forced to resign after being accused of evading FIFA and the Football Association's ban on third-party ownership of players.
