This is an initiative led by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to support athletes pursuing a second career or career change by helping them become entrepreneurs.
Alibaba.com, the leading global business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce platform, has become the first global Olympic and Paralympic e-commerce partner to join the fourth Athlete365 Business Accelerator.
The Athlete365 Business Development Program is a business incubator that equips professional athletes with the skills needed to create and manage their own businesses.
According to new data from Alibaba.com, nearly two-thirds (63%) of retired athletes are having trouble finding a new job after retiring. While 76% of retired athletes say they have transferable skills that are suitable for entrepreneurship, just over half (52%) currently run their own businesses.
As the first partner to join the program, Alibaba.com will build a multi-phase training program focused on e-commerce and global trade, aiming to build participants’ knowledge in key business areas such as using AI tools, global sourcing, and B2B exporting through online marketplaces.
Through this program, Alibaba.com aims to empower over 1,000 current and former global athletes and athletes with training. In addition, Alibaba.com will provide 50 potential candidates with Business Development packages worth US$10,000, which include a combination of logistics, operations, and sourcing training, along with credit to help candidates unlock long-term sustainable growth opportunities.
