6 habits to help women live healthy at age 40

VnExpressVnExpress08/01/2024

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle such as eating in moderation, avoiding alcohol, not smoking, and getting adequate rest helps women in their 40s reduce premenopausal symptoms.

Menopause occurs in three stages: premenopause, menopause, and postmenopause. Typically, premenopause can begin in the 40s, about 5-10 years before the complete cessation of menstruation in menopause. To reduce uncomfortable symptoms and live a healthy life during this stage, women should note the following.

Eat healthy

Premenopausal women should maintain a nutritious, balanced diet. Plant foods are often healthier, helping to control weight, diabetes and blood pressure such as turmeric, ginger, coriander, curry grass... They also contain natural estrogen to reduce premenopausal symptoms.

Milk and dairy products like yogurt maintain bone health and healthy digestion.

Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking

These are all unhealthy habits that can lead to many diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, lung cancer, osteoporosis, and nutritional deficiencies. Drinking too much alcohol and smoking also interfere with sleep and circadian rhythms, leading to poor health and increased discomfort during menopause.

Rest, get enough sleep

Hormone decline during perimenopause can cause women to be irritable, have hot flashes, night sweats, and insomnia. Rest and lack of sleep increase the risk of many diseases. Women should maintain a regular sleep schedule, rest regularly, and keep a comfortable mood.

Exercise regularly

Exercise helps keep your heart, circulatory system, respiratory system, bones, muscles, and many other organs healthy. In addition to aerobic and cardio exercises (biking, walking, running), yoga can also be beneficial. It promotes physical, mental, and emotional health and helps prevent depression.

Maintain a healthy weight

The transition to menopause can be emotionally stressful. Some women turn to food to feel better. This can lead to overeating or consuming unhealthy foods like sweets and fast food, which can lead to weight gain and eating disorders.

Being overweight increases your risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, joint problems and sleep apnea.

Track your period

Menstruation still occurs during premenopause, so some women can still get pregnant. Monitoring physiological manifestations helps detect early abnormalities in menstruation, reproductive health and timely treatment.
