59 seconds to end MMA Duo, Nguyen Xuan Phuong is not convinced of defeat?

On the evening of April 12, at Tay Ho Stadium (Hanoi), LION Championship 21 brought to the audience 4 completely new competition events in the 21st event and the first event in 2025.

Notably, the match in the MMA Duo 130kg category (pairing 130kg weight class), the result was quickly decided after 55 seconds for Tien Long and Trung Hai of the Raptor MMA team.

MMA Duo is a pair event, where two fighters from each team compete in the ring at the same time. Trung Hai defeated fighter Ngoc Thuc by submission in 55 seconds; while his teammate Tien Long won by TKO against Xuan Phuong just 4 seconds later.

The match ended so quickly that the audience watching live and on TV did not have time to feel it. Everyone was looking forward to a dramatic match that lasted at least 10 minutes/round between the 4 boxers.

Because from the face-off the day before, Xuan Phuong and Ngoc Thuc had "taunted" the couple Trung Hai and Tien Long quite harshly. Xuan Phuong brought 2 dog mouth covers to give to his opponent.

For his part, Nguyen Xuan Phuong - the 2019 and 2023 SEA Games kick boxing champion - could not control his emotions after the referee awarded Tien Long a TKO victory.

Xuan Phuong got up and rushed towards Tien Long who was climbing the ring to celebrate. Luckily, the referee and security personnel intervened in time and pulled Xuan Phuong out of the cage.

This is definitely a hard-to-swallow defeat for Xuan Phuong and his teammate Ngoc Thuc in their first time participating in the MMA Duo of the 21st LION Championship.

MMA Duo is a format in which 2 fighters fight 2 fighters at the same time, under the supervision of 2 referees on the floor. With the total weight of the two teams agreed with the organizers before the match is announced. An MMA Duo match will take place continuously for a 10-minute round.

MMA Gauntlet is a competition format between 2 teams with similar conditions such as: number of fighters; weight; reserve fighters; total team weight...

The rules in this format are also very attractive when a match will last a maximum of 7 rounds, each round is 5 minutes long, with a 2-minute break between rounds.

The order of the teams competing is kept secret by the organizers and must be sent at least 24 hours before the competition. In particular, the fighters will compete in turn in the order: vanguard - center - main general.

The winner of a round gets to fight the next member of the opposing team. Only if the winner loses or voluntarily withdraws will he be eliminated.
