(CLO) The first Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival left deep emotions in the hearts of the audience and demonstrated the enduring vitality of drama in the cultural life of the City.
On the evening of November 29, at the City Theater, the first Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival 2024 with the theme "Southern Aspiration" closed.
With the participation of 19 theater units, along with 24 plays with diverse artistic colors, the first Ho Chi Minh City Drama Festival 2024 brings the audience an attractive "feast".

The festival left deep emotions in the hearts of the audience, as well as demonstrated the enduring vitality of drama in the cultural life of Ho Chi Minh City.
At the closing night, the Organizing Committee awarded 5 gold medals to the plays “Giang Huong” (Thien Dang Drama Theater), “Canh Dong ruc lua” (Quoc Thao Drama Theater), “Dong chi” (Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association), “Con me cuoi cuoi” (Hoang Thai Thanh Drama Theater), “Duc Thuong Cong Ta Quan Le Van Duyet - Nguoi mang 9 xuan tu” (Idecaf Drama Theater).
Regarding individual awards, there were 28 Gold Medals and 43 Silver Medals. The Organizing Committee also awarded the following prizes: Play for children (“Colora - the brilliant land” by Ban Mai stage); Play with impressive promotional media (“Bong canh co” - Hong Van stage); Excellent author (author Ngoc Truc, play “Canh dong ruoc lua” by Quoc Thao stage); Excellent music (Nguyen Huu Thu, play “Giang Huong” - Thien Dang stage); Excellent art design (Tham Thi Lua, play “Ngay a cong troi” - Trinh Kim Chi stage); Excellent lighting design (Meritorious Artist Thien My, play “Ngay a cong troi” - Trinh Kim Chi stage).
In her closing remarks, People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, said that the Festival had set many goals, including contributing to assessing the quality of the city's theater scene through a professional activity. Many plays were highly appreciated by the Arts Council and the audience.
One of the differences of the Festival is that the units do not perform at one location as usual. Instead, the Arts Council goes to each unit's stage to watch and evaluate.
According to People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, performing at the units' usual operating locations will be an objective condition for management agencies to evaluate not only the quality of the play but also the organization and quality of operations of each stage.

Besides many plays that were highly appreciated by the Arts Council and the audience, the Festival also showed that Ho Chi Minh City's drama stage still has limitations and difficulties.
Some of the plays are of low quality, reflecting the lack of thoroughness in investment by a few units and individuals; difficulties in facilities of some performance venues or limited funding have affected the quality of the works; strong competition from many other modern forms of entertainment...
According to the Organizing Committee, after the Festival, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City will coordinate with units to re-perform the plays that won high prizes to continue to spread quality works; helping the audience have more conditions to enjoy the good quality plays of the Festival.
