On the morning of May 7, Yen Mo District People's Committee held a conference to summarize the 2023 Summer-Autumn crop production, deploy the 2024 Summer-Autumn crop production plan, and summarize the work of natural disaster prevention and control in 2023, and the direction and tasks of natural disaster prevention and control (PCTT) in 2024.
Attending were leaders of Yen Mo District People's Committee and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province.
In the 2023 Summer-Autumn Crop, the weather and hydrology are relatively favorable for production, but complex pests and diseases, and high input material prices have significantly impacted production. However, with the close leadership of authorities at all levels, specialized sectors, and the efforts of the people, production still achieved and exceeded the set plan in terms of productivity and value.
The whole district has cultivated nearly 7,100 hectares. Of which, rice is more than 6,500 hectares, with a yield of 55.57 quintals/hectare, a slight increase compared to the previous Summer-Autumn crop. The rice variety structure continues to shift towards reducing the area of hybrid rice and increasing the area of high-quality rice and glutinous rice. Many communes have over 90% of the area being high-quality rice and glutinous rice such as: Yen Thang, Yen Mac, Khanh Thinh, Yen Tu, Yen Lam.
Regarding crops, the total planting area is 565 hectares, mainly green beans, soybeans, peanuts, sweet potatoes, corn, and various vegetables. In general, the crops have higher yields than the previous crop.
The highlight of this production season is that localities in the district have deployed nearly 100 hectares of rice production using new varieties and new techniques, more than 5 hectares of organic production, thereby helping to reduce costs, improve product quality, and increase profits per hectare by about 20-25 million VND. In addition, some farming households have also received financial support to purchase machinery (airplanes, transplanters, etc.), build factories, water-saving irrigation systems, and gradually modernize production.
In the 2024 Summer-Autumn crop, the whole district plans to plant 7,060 hectares, including 6,515 hectares of rice and 545 hectares of other crops. At the same time, strive to have over 50 hectares linked to production and product consumption with enterprises; have over 100 hectares of rice production applying new varieties, new technical advances and an additional 500 hectares of rice transplanted (by hand and machine). To ensure the set goals and plans, the district has specific technical solutions on variety structure, rice tea structure, and planting season. Accordingly, the Early Summer-Autumn crop will be completed before June 30, and the Mid-Autumn crop will be completed before July 10.
Regarding the PCTT work, in 2023, Yen Mo district will not be directly affected by storms and tropical depressions, so there will be no major damage to people and property. However, the upcoming storm and flood season in 2024 is forecast to have complicated and unpredictable developments, so the District People's Committee has strengthened the PCTT and search and rescue command committees at all levels; reviewed, updated, and supplemented the PCTT plan, and prepared response plans for all levels of natural disaster risks.
Identify specific key points for disaster prevention and control, thereby perfecting disaster prevention and control plans of all levels and sectors according to the 4 on-site motto, ensuring details, specificity, and suitability to the characteristics and conditions of each locality. Inspect and urge the preparation of "4 on-site" in sectors, communes, towns, villages, hamlets and households living outside the dike. In addition, promote the emulation movement "Proactively preventing and controlling disasters, building safe communities"... The goal is to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and the State, minimizing damage caused by natural disasters.
