In the first 8 months of 2023, Vietnam - China import and export turnover exceeded 100 billion USD. Promoting trade, investment and connecting Vietnam - China trade (Chongqing) |
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first 10 months of 2023, China was our country's second largest export market with an estimated turnover of 49.5 billion USD, up 5%. This increase is a bright spot in the country's exports in the context of exports to most key markets decreasing.
Durian is a major export item to China in recent times. |
This is because in recent times, ministries and sectors, including the Ministry of Industry and Trade, have implemented effective solutions for exports to countries sharing borders. Goods are basically not congested, especially fruits and vegetables such as durian, dragon fruit... even during peak season, contributing to increasing export turnover to the Chinese market.
On the other hand, China is still Vietnam's largest import market with an estimated turnover of 89.7 billion USD, down 10.2% over the same period last year.
Thus, the two-way import-export turnover between Vietnam and China is estimated to reach 139.2 billion USD after the first 10 months of the year.
In recent times, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has promoted trade promotion solutions to the Chinese market. Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized a conference to promote trade, investment and connect trade between Vietnam and China (Chongqing). This is a large market, but the trade turnover between Vietnam and Chongqing only accounts for a low proportion (3%) of the total trade turnover between the two countries.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to encourage Vietnamese enterprises with suitable conditions and needs to connect with Chongqing enterprises in particular and China in general to effectively exploit the “New Road and Sea Route”. In addition, it will continue to encourage Chongqing enterprises with high qualifications and advanced technology in the field of new energy vehicles to cooperate, invest and develop in Vietnam.
In addition, in the near future, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (Trade Promotion Agency) will coordinate with the People's Committee of Lao Cai province to organize the 23rd Vietnam - China International Trade Fair (Lao Cai) in 2023 for 6 days (November 10 - 15), at Kim Thanh Fair - Exhibition Center, Duyen Hai ward, Lao Cai city, Lao Cai province.
This is an important trade promotion event to promote cooperation, economic development, investment, tourism and services between Lao Cai and localities of Vietnam with Yunnan province and localities of China, contributing to enhancing trade exchanges between the two sides, boosting the growth of import and export turnover through Lao Cai international border gate, helping businesses learn about and penetrate the market, creating momentum for expansion.
In addition, recently, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1199/QD-TTg dated October 14, 2023 approving the planning of border gates on the Vietnam - China land border for the period 2021 - 2030 with a vision to 2050. The planning of border gates on the Vietnam - China land border includes the provinces of Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien.
According to the Plan, by 2030, the Vietnam - China border will have 26 border gates, including 14 international border gates, 12 bilateral border gates (including 20 customs clearance routes/specialized routes for transporting goods in pairs of international border gates, bilateral border gates) and 1 special opening/border gate.
Opening and upgrading international border gates, bilateral border gates, customs clearance routes... aims to contribute to increasing import and export turnover of goods between Vietnam and China.
