The investment project to build the new Phong Chau bridge is assigned to the Thang Long Project Management Board to manage and construct in Tam Nong and Lam Thao districts (Phu Tho province), from the fourth quarter of 2024 to the fourth quarter of 2025 with a total construction cost of about 800 billion VND, from the central budget reserve in 2024.
A representative of the Department of Construction Investment Management (Ministry of Transport) said that the decision was issued to promptly handle the collapse of the old Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C, ensuring the urgency and quick resolution of traffic disruptions, overcoming the consequences of storms and floods; soon connecting the traffic network in the area, creating favorable conditions for people to travel across both sides of the river connecting Tam Nong district with Lam Thao district (Phu Tho province) and localities in the region. At the same time, supporting socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the area.
According to the above decision, the Thang Long Project Management Board is responsible for presiding over and coordinating with relevant agencies and units to organize the preparation of dossiers and procedures for investment in construction of works in accordance with legal regulations on public investment, construction and other relevant legal regulations; develop a detailed plan to implement the project according to the emergency order with the project completion schedule in 2025 under the direction of the Prime Minister.
Previously, on October 18, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha directed that the investment in rebuilding Phong Chau bridge is an urgent task that must be carried out promptly, "with a special mechanism, selecting investors to build the new Phong Chau bridge as quickly as possible, ensuring safety and quality".
In order to implement the new Phong Chau bridge construction project in the shortest time and with the most suitable mechanism and policies, Phu Tho province, ministries and branches have agreed that the Ministry of Transport is the investment management agency.
The project applies current mechanisms and regulations in emergency construction situations to complete investigation, survey, design, approval of investment decisions, application of special mechanisms in contractor selection and is expected to start construction in December 2024.
