On February 10, Yonhap news agency quoted the South Korean Navy as saying that the US nuclear submarine USS Alexandria docked at the Busan naval base, about 320 km southeast of Seoul, to resupply supplies and give crew members a rest.
The Los Angeles-class attack submarine is expected to conduct operations to enhance cooperation between the South Korean and US navies and strengthen the joint defense posture.
This is the latest visit after three months of the Los Angeles-class USS Columbia visiting the southeastern naval base for the same purpose.
Responding to this event, on February 11, a spokesman for the North Korean Ministry of Defense called the arrival of a US nuclear submarine in South Korea an "undeniable threat" to the country's security environment.
Accordingly, Pyongyang expressed "deep concern over the dangerous military actions of the US that could push the serious military tension in the area around the Korean Peninsula into an actual armed conflict", and strongly warned them to stop "provocative actions leading to further instability".
The statement said the North Korean armed forces are seriously monitoring the frequent appearance of US strategic assets on the Korean peninsula and "are ready to take all measures to protect the security, national interests and regional peace."
The Northeast Asian country affirmed that it will "take deterrent actions against elements that threaten the regional security environment and will not hesitate to exercise its right to punish those who provoke it."
