Qatar Midfielder Martin Boyle scored to make it 2-0 for Australia against Indonesia, in the first match of the 1/8 round of the Asian Cup.

Another Australian cross from the right, this time defender Gethin Jones sent the ball to the second post for Boyle to dive and head low into the empty net. After the header, Boyle was in pain after hitting the post, while coach Shin leaned back and gritted his teeth in regret as his team conceded.

Indonesia coordinated well in front of the right penalty area, when Hubner created a wall for Ferdinan to shoot from afar but the ball was a bit high. The 20-year-old midfielder also gritted his teeth in regret after missing.

Hubner received the ball in front of the penalty area, the left side was open but he passed it to the right for Ferdinan to create. The ball reached the second post where Sayuri was unmarked, but he volleyed high into the sky in a difficult position.

Indonesia will face Australia at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Al Rayyan City, Qatar in the Round of 16 of the Asian Cup at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, Hanoi time. This is the first time Indonesia has played a knockout match of the Asian Cup.

Indonesia is currently ranked 146th in FIFA, 21 places below Australia. The two teams have met 18 times, with Indonesia winning one, drawing three and losing 14. The Southeast Asian representative's only victory came in the 1981 World Cup qualifiers, with a score of 1-0.

Indonesia qualified for the knockout stage after finishing third in Group D, with three points, above Vietnam and below Iraq and Japan. Australia topped Group B with seven points, thanks to wins over India and Syria, and a draw with Uzbekistan.

Australia have always made it through the group stages of the Asian Cup, reaching the final in 2011 and winning it four years later under Ange Postecoglou. In 2019, they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by the UAE.
