In December 2023, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism launched a campaign to create literary and artistic works "Living forever with time" for the period 2022 - 2025 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2030) and the 85th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2030)...
The genres of works participating in the contest are rich and diverse, such as: Literature is novels and epics; Theater is Drama, Tuong, Cheo, Cai Luong, Ca Drama; Music is symphonies, choirs, musicals; Dance is dance poetry, suites and dance plays...
It is very gratifying that, in just a short time (5 months since the launch) in the Academic Music category, the Opera “Him Lam Moon” by musician Do Hong Quan, our leading musician today, has been completed and entered the competition.

Musician Do Hong Quan is the son of musician Do Nhuan. He came to music from a young age, directly tutored by his father. He then studied piano under the guidance of music pedagogue Thai Thi Lien, then studied abroad at the Moscow Conservatory, graduating with a red diploma with a Concerto for violin and symphony orchestra.
Later, he had the opportunity to study and practice at the Paris Conservatory - France. Family tradition, natural talent, and a very systematic learning process to cultivate musical knowledge and the quintessence of world music have created a talented music conductor and composer. His instrumental works have been performed in many countries such as: France, Russia, Germany, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Uzbekistan, Latvia, and published in Russia and the US (in 2002).
In the field of musicals, inheriting the achievements of his father Do Nhuan, a musician who pioneered and built modern musicals in our country, in 2016, musician Do Hong Quan wrote the musical "Red Leaves" (Music: Do Hong Quan, script: Poet Nguyen Thi Hong Ngát), bringing a new vitality to Vietnamese musicals, following in the footsteps of his father and brother's generation who pioneered and pioneered the Vietnamese musical stage.
In 1965, there was the first musical “Co Sao” by musician Do Nhuan; in 1975, there was the play “Nguoi tac tuong” also by musician Do Nhuan. During such a long period, due to difficult social living conditions, there were no major, long-lasting works in music. In 2011, the Prime Minister issued Decision 844/QD-TTCP to support literary, artistic and journalistic works about the two resistance wars against France and the US from 1930 to the present. In 2013, the Department of Performing Arts chose to “order” musician Do Hong Quan to write an opera. “La do” was approved by a very strict review board, then staged and performed at the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet.
The appearance of a new musical in the musical life on an unprecedented large scale, mobilizing the entire Vietnam Symphony Orchestra with a number of artists up to 80 people, mobilizing the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet with the main vocalists, excellent soloists, winners of domestic awards as well as graduates from overseas... has been warmly welcomed by the public and contributed greatly to the development of our modern music.
Since that day, 8 years have passed, following the opera “Red Leaves”, this spring, musician Do Hong Quan has completed the Opera “Him Lam Moon” consisting of 2 acts and 6 scenes, with dozens of actors on stage, with many emotional Arias. The opera recreates the glorious Dien Bien Phu campaign of the past, with infantry and artillery regiments, civilian laborers and art troupes participating in the historic campaign, from when the campaign was still codenamed “Tran Dinh” until the day the triumphant song “Liberating Dien Bien, our troops marched back, amidst the blooming flowers...”.
It must be noted that the Opera “Him Lam Moon” is a wonderful artistic creation, a strong “rejuvenation” of musician Do Hong Quan, aiming at the milestone of May 7, 2024 ahead, when the whole country celebrates the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu victory. Musician Do Hong Quan composed almost day and night, besides his work as President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, he was also very busy and took up a lot of time, so that the final act of the opera was completed in these early spring days.
The glorious historical victory of Dien Bien that the whole world praises; the image of heroic soldiers, artists - soldiers, including the image of the musician's beloved father Do Nhuan participating in the campaign, was like an intoxicating and inspiring yeast that made the musician compose throughout the spring days with hundreds of pages of scores, with arias that touched people's hearts. "May 7, 2024 is the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu victory. I have been looking forward to that day so that the Opera "Him Lam Moon" can be released on time and can be performed right in the middle of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield of the past", musician Do Hong Quan shared.
Many musicians, writers, and poets who are musical colleagues of musician Do Hong Quan, when reading the manuscript and score of the Opera “Vang Trang Him Lam”, all acknowledged: Opera “Vang Trang Him Lam” by musician Do Hong Quan is truly a wonderful artistic creation, the only opera to date about Dien Bien Phu and towards the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory, a highlight of the movement to compose literary and artistic works “Living forever with time” by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, a strong “rejuvenation” in the academic musical composition of musician Do Hong Quan.
It is known that the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations organized "Pilgrimage to the source through the Northwest - Returning to Dien Bien" led by the President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations - musician Do Hong Quan.
The delegation consisted of many members who were representatives of associations in the Union, with a meaningful journey, through the provinces of Hoa Binh and Son La; visited the historical relic of Muong Phang; offered incense at the Temple of Martyrs of Dien Bien Phu battlefield, A1 Cemetery of Muong Thanh ward; visited the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum, and especially had an art exchange program with the army and people of Dien Bien at the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument stage, performed by famous artists of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the Vietnam Musicians Association, the Dien Bien Literature and Arts Association; Dien Bien Provincial Art Troupe...
In the art program at the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument in the middle of historic Dien Bien, there should be the opera "Him Lam Moon", even if it is just a wonderful aria in a musical...
