For the first time, the Vietnam Wildlife Action Center (WildAct) with the support of the Vietnam National Parks and Protected Areas Association (VNPPA) and the Chu Yang Sin National Park Management Board successfully organized the "Chu Yang Sin Forest Keeper" award.

Chu Yang Sin National Park (VGQ) is one of the hotspots with high biodiversity density that needs to be protected in Vietnam.

With a total area of about 60,000 hectares, the entire Chu Yang Sin National Park only has about 100 forest rangers working, meaning each ranger will be in charge of 600 hectares of forest.

This reality shows that the pressures and difficulties that the staff here are facing are extremely great.

Therefore, the “Chu Yang Sin Forest Keeper” award is organized with the desire to recognize and spread the extraordinary work of forest rangers in preserving the ecosystem and unique species of the Truong Son range.

During the three months of implementation, the contest received impressive numbers from more than 30 candidates and nominees for their achievements and tireless efforts to protect the safety of the home of wild animals in Chu Yang Sin.

After the scoring process according to the criteria, 8 awards with a total value of 100 million VND were awarded to individuals and teams with outstanding achievements in the recent past, specifically:

Outstanding individual awards : Patrol category belongs to ranger Y Noi Long Ding, Ranger Station No. 7 and ranger Do Van Lam, Ranger Station No. 10; Research category belongs to ranger Le Thi Ha, Scientific Research Department; Honoring dedication category belongs to ranger Nguyen Van Luong, Deputy Director of Chu Yang Sin National Park.

Outstanding Team Award : Effective patrol category belongs to Ranger Station No. 5, Ranger Station No. 4 and Ranger Station No. 10; Promising patrol category belongs to Community Forest Protection Patrol Team.

Mr. Y Noi Long Ding - One of the ethnic minority forest rangers, honored in the Patrol category, shared: “As a M'Nong ethnic person, Chu Yang Sin is like my home, because this is where I grew up and matured.

For me, the forestry profession is a way to express my love for the Chu Yang Sin forest. Today, receiving the award as a forestry ranger gives me more motivation to complete my duties well and strive to protect the natural resources of this house."

Not only that, the award is an opportunity for the organizers to honor, encourage and raise awareness among Vietnamese people about the important role of forest rangers in conservation work, as well as share stories of the forest ranger profession with a wider public.

Representative of Chu Yang Sin National Park Management Board - Mr. Loc Xuan Nghia, said: "We are proud to be able to accompany our partners to organize this meaningful award. The award is a great spiritual gift for our forest rangers.

This is an opportunity for us to send stories to the community so that they can understand and have a more positive view of the work that the Park's rangers are dedicated to preserving the diverse ecosystem here."

Expressing concern about the many difficulties and dangers in carrying out forest protection work for various reasons, Mr. Bui Xuan Truong - General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of National Parks and Nature Reserves, affirmed: "Forest management and protection activities are an important and urgent task of special-use and protective forests.

However, this activity faces difficulties and challenges while the rangers and forest protection forces are facing many difficulties and challenges in carrying out their tasks.

Therefore, awards for forest conservation and protection are very necessary to promptly encourage and reward groups and individuals with outstanding achievements in forest management and protection activities."

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, Founder and Executive Director of WildAct, hopes that in the future, similar efforts from many different organizations will help the forest ranger profession be viewed more correctly and fairly by the community.

According to her, the work of forest rangers and specialized forest protection forces is very hard, full of hardships and challenges.

Therefore, WildAct hopes that through awards honoring dedication like this, it will further motivate forest rangers, as well as create a foundation for the community to understand and appreciate these valuable efforts even more.
