Position of Hanoi craft villages
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen emphasized: Thang Long - Hanoi is famous as a land of "spiritual land and talented people", the largest cultural center in the country not only because of historical relics and cultural heritage but also because of traditional craft villages that have been recorded in history books and poetry.
Through many ups and downs, Hanoi's craft villages still retain their own inherent beauty. With a long history and meaningful stories hidden in each product, the craft villages have persistently developed over time and are deeply engraved in the soul of every Hanoian.
From the skillful hands of artisans, countless exquisite handicraft products have been created, overcoming time to exist and develop until today. With the intersection between tradition and modernity, craft villages in Hanoi are gradually asserting a solid position in the international market.
According to Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen, deeply aware of the potential and value of craft villages, Hanoi Party Committee issued Resolution No. 09 on developing cultural industry in the capital, in which it affirmed the priority of developing craft villages and traditional handicraft products.
The Hanoi People's Committee has also issued a Plan for the development of occupations and craft villages until 2025, with a vision to 2030; approved the Master Plan for the development of craft villages in Hanoi for the period 2025 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, and at the same time has many mechanisms and policies to preserve and develop craft villages in the capital.
Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen added that Hanoi is currently home to the largest number of craft villages and artisans in the country. Each craft village has its own identity, with unique products in the local cultural style; highly competitive in the domestic and international markets.
Particularly for the two craft villages of Bat Trang and Van Phuc, they are not only symbols of traditional Vietnamese handicrafts, but also creative works of art, crystallized from the talent and dedication of skilled artisans and workers.
“The recognition of Bat Trang Ceramics and Van Phuc Silk Villages as members of the World Craft Council as members of the World Network of Creative Craft Cities is not only a source of pride but also a testament to the efforts to preserve and promote traditional values while meeting the needs of the present era,” emphasized Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen.
Inspiration for craft villages
Awarding the certificate to the two world handicraft villages of Bat Trang and Van Phuc, Chairman of the World Craft Council Saad al-Qaddumi emphasized: the title is not only a recognition of the sophisticated craftsmanship of the two villages mentioned above, but also a tribute to the resilient spirit, creativity and cultural pride of Vietnamese artisans in general and Hanoi in particular.
When honoring the two craft villages of Bat Trang and Van Phuc, the World Craft Council also recognized the determination and efforts of the Vietnamese people, who not only preserve cultural identity but also bring traditional crafts to a new height on the world map.
“The success of Bat Trang and Van Phuc is a great inspiration for other countries, proving that with solidarity, investment and dedication, handicraft industries not only survive but also thrive, becoming economic drivers and cultural pride…” - said Mr. Saad al-Qaddumi.
The World Craft Council representative also pledged to continue to accompany and cooperate closely with craft villages, governments and artisans to build a global craft community that honors long-standing traditions but also aims for a sustainable and prosperous future.
“Together, we will ensure that the world continues to appreciate the beauty and value of crafts, as we are doing here in Hanoi today…” - President of the World Craft Council Saad al-Qaddumi emphasized in his speech.
At the ceremony, President of the World Craft Council Saad al-Qaddumi awarded the World Craft Village recognition certificate to the two craft villages of Bat Trang Ceramics and Van Phuc Silk Weaving. The collective leadership of Hanoi City presented flowers to congratulate the representatives of the two honored craft villages.
After 60 years of establishment, the World Craft Council has recognized 68 world craft villages from 27 countries around the world, of which Bat Trang Ceramics and Van Phuc Silk Weaving villages in Hanoi are the 67th and 68th craft villages to be recognized. Vietnam is the 28th country to have a craft village recognized as a world craft village.
