Inside a 500m2 closed house system, Mr. Pham Van Quan (born in 1989, residing in Quarter 5, Dong Thanh Ward, Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province) grows 60,000 oyster mushroom spawns, selling them all as they are picked, earning 700 million VND per year.
Growing oyster mushrooms is a model that many farmers in Quang Tri province have invested in and brought about efficiency. Among them, Mr. Pham Van Quan's oyster mushroom farm is among the top in the province.

Sharing with us, Mr. Quan said that in 2018 he attended a training course on mushroom growing techniques organized by the Farmers' Association. Feeling interested, Mr. Quan continued to visit some effective oyster mushroom growing models.
Realizing that growing oyster mushrooms is much more economically efficient than some other crops, Mr. Quan decided to invest.
Being young, with little capital and experience, Mr. Quan initially only dared to invest in growing 1,000 - 2,000 mushroom spawns with an investment capital of about 200 million VND.

After understanding mushroom growing techniques and gaining experience through several failures, Mr. Quan decided to borrow capital to expand the scale, increase production, and meet market demand.
Inside the 500m2 closed house system, Mr. Quan installed an automatic sprinkler system to grow mushrooms.
As a young man, Mr. Quan understands that applying machinery and science and technology to production will bring sustainable efficiency. Therefore, Mr. Quan invested in a machine to mix raw materials and pack mushrooms, a steam sterilization and disinfection oven, etc.
"After packing the mushroom bags, they must be put in an autoclave to sterilize and disinfect for at least 6 hours to meet standards. When growing oyster mushrooms, in addition to regularly watering to ensure temperature and humidity, sterilizing the mushroom bags is extremely important," Mr. Quan shared.

With perseverance, hard work, and good application of science and technology, Mr. Quan's mushroom farm now regularly grows 60,000 mushroom spawns. On average, a mushroom spawn weighs from 1-1.2 kg. The average cost of raw materials for each mushroom spawn is about 8,000 VND. The time from packing the mushrooms to harvesting is about 2 months.
Each bag of oyster mushrooms can be harvested for about 6-12 times, each time 15-20 days apart, with a yield of 0.4-0.5kg of mushrooms per bag. After deducting costs, each bag of oyster mushrooms yields a profit of 10,000-12,000 VND. Mushroom prices range from 50,000-80,000 VND/kg.

Every year, with 60,000 mushroom spawns for harvest, Mr. Quan sells them to the provincial market, bringing in revenue of more than 1.2 billion VND. After deducting expenses, Mr. Quan earns more than 700 million VND/year. Not only that, Mr. Quan's oyster mushroom farm also creates stable jobs for 4 family workers and some seasonal workers.
"The market for my oyster mushrooms is within the province. I sell them all as soon as I pick them. The output and price are stable," said Mr. Quan.
With the motto of circular agriculture, when mushroom spawn is no longer harvested, Mr. Quan uses it as raw material to mix into organic fertilizer.
Organic fertilizer from mixed mushrooms is loose and suitable for Mr. Quan's family's 750m2 vegetable garden.

Mr. Ho Xuan Huy - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Dong Thanh Ward, Dong Ha City (Quang Tri Province) said that Mr. Quan is a typical farmer in the movement of good farmers in production and business, inspiring many farmers to learn and follow.
According to Mr. Huy, growing oyster mushrooms brings quite high economic efficiency, suitable for many people, many ages. To ensure sustainability, farmers need to study, visit, master science and technology, experience and product output orientation before growing oyster mushrooms.
