At the demonstration area of ​​the National Innovation Center in Hoa Lac (Hanoi), Viettel Military Industry and Telecommunications Group announced the successful development of 5G Chip.

This is Vietnam's first 5G DFE Chip line belonging to the 5G product ecosystem, completely designed by Viettel engineers. According to Viettel's representative, the 5G Chip is the most complex component of the 5G ecosystem.

This chip line plays the role of processing 5G DFE algorithms, controlling all operations of 5G RRU (Receive/Transfer Unit) and high-speed communication with other 5G processing units. 5G DFE chip has a high level of complexity, with a computing capacity of 1,000 billion calculations/second and is highly appreciated by prestigious partners such as Synopsys.

The world market does not currently provide a commercial 5G chip product line. Fully mastering the chip design process is an important step for Vietnam to participate more deeply in the global semiconductor industry. This is the premise for Viettel to be able to produce chips serving many fields such as AI, 6G, IoT... in the future.

Many years ago, Viettel had a strategy to gradually replace imported equipment and move towards using the entire core telecommunications network system with self-produced equipment.

Before successfully developing the 5G Chip, Viettel also joined hands with Qualcomm to research and successfully produce the world's first 5G base station radio block using ASIC chipset according to Open RAN standards.

This is considered a breakthrough, opening up opportunities to change the telecommunications network infrastructure equipment manufacturing industry due to its ability to reduce costs and eliminate dependence on proprietary chipsets of other equipment manufacturers in the world.

Viettel High Tech Corporation and Viettel Network Corporation have also successfully deployed a voice switchboard system for 4G/5G network (IMS system).

The IMS system is one of the important components in the telecommunications network layer, providing voice calling services with completely superior advantages compared to voice services on 3G networks.

In particular, call setup time is 3 times faster, call quality meets HD call standards, reducing terminal battery consumption by 30-50% when making calls.

Viettel has also been successful in bringing self-developed telecommunications equipment products such as OCS Real-time Billing System; PCRF Mobile Subscriber Internet Access Speed ​​Bandwidth Control System; SMSC Message Switchboard System; CRBT Ringback Tone Switchboard System into the network.

Viettel is currently the only company in the world that is both a telecommunications network operator and a research and equipment manufacturer. Thanks to the efforts of this network operator, Vietnam has become the 6th country in the world with the capacity to produce 5G network equipment.
