On May 3, at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York (USA), the UN Security Council (UNSC) held a High-Level Open Debate with the theme "Ensuring Future Confidence for Sustainable Peace".
Regarding post-conflict peacebuilding, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang highlighted the importance of enhancing mutual understanding and trust, especially between UN peacekeeping missions and the government, people, and political and armed forces of host countries. The Ambassador also called on the international community and the UNSC to promote confidence-building measures to address the root causes of conflicts such as poverty and inequality, on the basis of enhancing transparency and inclusiveness in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and identifying trust-building as one of the key components of the UN Secretary-General's New Agenda for Peace. On this occasion, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the element of trust in the process of building national unity, national development and international integration. This is clearly demonstrated through the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, being a reliable partner of the international community, actively participating and contributing at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and ASEAN-led mechanisms.
