Within the framework of the 2019 Vietnam - Cambodia Border Friendship Exchange Program, a roundtable conference on border management and protection between the Vietnam Border Guard (BĐBP) and representatives of Cambodian border protection forces, organized by the Vietnam Border Guard High Command, was also held, which was the main content of the friendship exchange program.
“On August 19, 2019, representatives of the Vietnam National Border Committee and the Cambodia National Border Demarcation and Marker Planting Committee initialed the Protocol recording 84% of the results of border demarcation and marker planting between the two countries, and submitted it to the leaders of the two governments to organize an official signing ceremony (expected at the end of September in Hanoi),” Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Commander of the Vietnam Border Guard, said during the roundtable discussion.
Strictly comply with the agreement on border regulations
In the coming time, the armed forces of the two countries will continue to demonstrate their determination to support, actively participate and create favorable conditions for the task of demarcation and marker planting in the field to be completed soon according to the plan of the two governments; protect the achievements of demarcation and marker planting in the past, serving the signing of the Border Agreement in the coming time. Referring to the achievements of the two countries' security forces in recent times, General Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, thanked the effective cooperation and both material and spiritual support of the Vietnam Border Guard for the forces controlling border gates, catching criminals, and protecting the Cambodian border.

Finding solutions for the remaining demarcation
Vietnam - Cambodia has a land border of about 1,137 km long, passing through 10 provinces of Vietnam, bordering 9 provinces of Cambodia, from the northernmost point which is the Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia border junction to the southernmost point which is Xa Xia (Ha Tien District, Kien Giang).
Since the end of June 1967, Vietnam and Cambodia have officially established diplomatic relations under the motto "Good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability". Over the past 52 years, despite the complicated developments in the world and the region, with the efforts of both sides, the Vietnam - Cambodia relationship has continued to have important developments, truly becoming an important factor contributing to creating a peaceful and stable environment for long-term socio-economic development, ensuring independence and national sovereignty of each country. That is also the basis and favorable premise for the Vietnam Border Guard and the Cambodian border protection force to promote and strengthen foreign relations, serving the management and protection of sovereignty and border security in the new situation.
Major General Nguyen Hoai Phuong, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam Border Guard, said: On the Vietnam - Cambodia border, the Border Guard forces of 10 provinces bordering the neighboring country have closely coordinated with the border protection forces of the neighboring country, regularly organizing talks, meetings, and exchanging information to promptly resolve related issues... The two sides also regularly organize bilateral patrols, clear and protect the border and border markers; effectively deploy measures to manage and protect the border and border markers, ensuring the status quo, preventing any activities that violate the territorial sovereignty between the two countries.
“Thanks to maintaining and upholding the relationship and the efforts of the functional forces, up to now, the two sides have completed 84% of the demarcation work. Currently, Vietnam and Cambodia are soon completing and signing the legal document recognizing the above demarcation achievements, and at the same time seeking solutions to soon complete the remaining work,” said Major General Nguyen Hoai Phuong.
Many twinning and support activities Over the years, the Border Guard Command of 10 border provinces has organized twinning with 23/98 border posts with 16 border police stations and 4 Border Guard battalions of Cambodia. Deploying 6/10 provinces of Vietnam to twinning with 6/9 border provinces of Cambodia and specifically in 38 pairs of residential clusters on both sides of the border. The Vietnam Border Guard Command also deployed aid and assistance to Cambodia in accordance with Resolution 806, Project 825 and bilateral defense cooperation agreements signed with neighboring countries, training 6 courses/54 people (Border Guard University and teachers). Since 2018, the Provincial Border Guard Commands and Commands have provided Cambodia's border protection units with nearly VND20 billion to purchase equipment, upgrade and repair barracks, offices, and support elections. Implementing the program “Helping children go to school”, the Border Guards of provinces and border posts are sponsoring 91 disadvantaged Cambodian students in border areas to complete high school. Border military and civilian medical stations have organized medical examinations and treatment, providing free medicine to 20,658 disadvantaged Cambodian people in border areas. |
