Vietnam - Cambodia promote economic and social cooperation

The friendship associations of the two countries agreed on a coordination program, continuing to promote extensive propaganda about the solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

On the morning of November 12, in Tay Ninh province, a joint conference between the Central Committees of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Associations took place to summarize and evaluate the results of one year of implementing the "Memorandum of Understanding on coordination of activities for the period 2022-2027 between the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association and the Cambodia - Vietnam Friendship Association".

Co-chairing the conference were Comrade Nguyen Thi Thanh, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Organizing Committee, member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Head of the Delegation Affairs Committee of the National Assembly Standing Committee, President of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association; Ms. Men Sam An, Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party, member of the Supreme Advisory Council of King Norodom Sihamoni, President of the Cambodia - Vietnam Friendship Association.

Also attending were representatives of leaders of Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc provinces.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Thanh, President of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association, spoke at the conference.

At the conference, delegates listened to representatives of the two friendship associations report on the summary and evaluation of the performance of each association and the results of coordination between the two associations in implementing the Memorandum of Understanding in 2023; discussed the direction and content of the program to implement the Memorandum of Understanding in 2024.

Delegates also presented papers and exchanged experiences in people-to-people friendship activities between agencies, units, provinces, districts and communes sharing the border of the two countries.

Accordingly, in 2023, the two associations have grasped and proactively followed the basic contents of the memorandum, developed an action plan and actively coordinated implementation with a fairly large amount of work, achieving very valuable results in most of the fields and contents set forth in the memorandum.

In particular, it affirmed the importance of propaganda and education work for members of the two associations and people of the two countries, especially the young generation, about the tradition of solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

On that basis, the two associations agreed on a coordination program to implement the 2024 Memorandum of Understanding, notably continuing to promote extensive propaganda to members and people of each country, especially the young generation, about the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia; promptly combat and refute the wrong and distorted views of hostile forces aimed at undermining the solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the people of the two countries.

Coordinate propaganda and mobilize all levels of the association, members of the two countries and the Cambodian people to proactively provide information and participate with the government and functional units in searching for, collecting and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Cambodia during different periods; as well as in managing, restoring and embellishing historical relics and memorials that are beautiful symbols of solidarity and friendship between the people of the two countries.

Maintain the tradition of exchanging high-level and association-level delegations, continue to carry out programs of friendship meetings, cultural exchanges, fostering friendship, community activities in poverty reduction, and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and epidemics.

It is expected that in 2024, the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association will organize two delegations to visit Cambodia (the delegation of former volunteer soldiers, former experts and relatives of martyrs who died in Cambodia and the delegation to attend the annual meeting between the two associations).
