US President Donald Trump's social network Truth Social lost $400.9 million (more than 10,178 billion VND) last year.
Truth Social is owned by Trump Media & Technology Group.
AP reported on February 16 that Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which owns the social network Truth Social, has just announced that it lost $400.9 million (more than VND 10,178 billion) last year and annual revenue decreased by 12% to $3.6 million.
The company was founded by President Donald Trump in 2021 to create the social network Truth Social, after he was banned from Twitter and Facebook. TMTG is headquartered in Saratosa (Florida, USA).
In its earnings report released on February 14, TMTG said its operations were operating at a loss partly due to a revenue-sharing agreement with an unnamed advertising partner.
After winning the presidential election in November 2024, Mr. Trump transferred all of his stock, worth about $4 billion, as a “goodwill gift” to a revocable trust under his control.
His eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is the sole trustee and has full voting and investment authority over all securities owned by the fund.
Citing the fact that it is in “early development,” TMTG said the company does not report “traditional key performance indicators” used by other social media companies, such as how many people have signed up for the service, used the service daily, monthly, or viewed its ads.
TMTG debuted on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol DJT in March 2024, after completing its merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp.
After blocking Mr. Trump's account, Facebook reopened it in March 2023, while Twitter reopened it in August 2023, when the social network changed its name to X. Billionaire Elon Musk, who owns the social network X, became a close ally of Mr. Trump during the election campaign last year, and is currently the head of the Office of Government Effectiveness under the Trump administration.
