Four years after its last edition, the AFC Annual Awards will be relaunched with a ceremony to honour the best individuals and associations in Asian football in 2022.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) is honored to be in the top 3 nominees for the Diamond Award for AFC Member Federation of the Year.
The other two candidates nominated in this category are the Kyrgyzstan Football Federation and the Lebanese Football Federation respectively.
The fact that VFF is in the top 3 nominees for the Diamond Award for AFC Member Association of the Year is the Asian Football Confederation's recognition of the outstanding achievements that Vietnamese football has achieved in the 2022 operating year.
2022 marks a historic milestone for Vietnamese football when for the first time the national women's football team excellently passed the play-off round to win a ticket to the 2023 Women's World Cup finals (held in Australia and New Zealand).
In the final round of the 2023 Women's World Cup that followed, the Vietnamese women's team, although not winning any matches and not scoring any goals, left a good impression. Notably, in the opening match, coach Mai Duc Chung's team created a surprise when they only lost 0-3 to the US team - the number one team in the world.
Meanwhile, the national men's team also left its mark by qualifying for the third qualifying round (the final qualifying round) of the 2022 World Cup in Asia for the first time. The Vietnam team is also the only representative from Southeast Asia to make it to this round.
Besides, in 2022, Vietnam is also the only country in Southeast Asia with 3 youth teams entering the finals of Asian tournaments, of which the national U23 team reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 U23 Asian Cup finals (held in Uzbekistan).
In addition, in the regional arena, Vietnamese football also impressed by winning the 2022 Southeast Asian U23 tournament with a record of all wins and not conceding any goals.
Not only that, Vietnamese football also had an extremely impressive 31st SEA Games by winning both gold medals in men's and women's football.
Another noteworthy point in VFF's activities in 2022 is the successful coordination of domestic and international tournaments in the "new normal" conditions after a period heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Including the AFC Cup and AFC Champions League group stage matches in Ho Chi Minh City, 4 competitions (men's/women's football and men's/women's futsal) at SEA Games 31, thereby continuing to show that VFF is always a dynamic and active federation, receiving high trust from international friends.
According to information from AFC, the 2022 Annual Awards Ceremony will begin with a profound tribute to Mr. Saoud Al Mohannadi - former Vice President of AFC, who has made great contributions to the development of Asian football and will be recognized with the prestigious AFC Diamond of Asia Award.
